    Pros

Great company to have on your resume. You learn a lot quickly. Fantastic people. Benefits are good.

    Cons

No work life balance, no room for advancement unless you brown nose, leadership plays favorites, difficult leadership, low bonuses, tiny salary increases

    Advice to Management

Reward people for their work and pay them accordingly

    Pros

Mercer has been a great place to develop my skills as a consultant. They truly believe in investing in you, and as a fresh graduate, I can definitely say that I feel valued. The best thing (and you'll hear this over and over) is the people you get to work with. They're bright, helpful, and it's not a "cut throat" environment. Great work life balance. It gets busy at certain periods during the year, but that's just the nature of the business.

    Cons

The pay is middle of the pack as far as HR consulting firms go. As an analyst I like that I make overtime (no other firms really pay overtime). If I work diligently, I have the opportunity for a huge upside.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in your people. People want to work here because Mercer is #1 and has a great reputation. Leverage the knowledge of those colleagues who've "been there, done that" before. We want to remain innovative and stay ahead of our competitors.

    Pros

My Direct Supervisor's were flexible with my home/life schedule as a working mother of 2 young children.

    Cons

It is hard to be effective and efficient at your job with the frequent changes in management and company vision and strategy.

    Pros

Flexibility is good but must work weekends and evenings to stay ahead.

    Cons

So many changes that it's impossible to even keep up any longer. Don't seem valued as an employee; just an employee number. Low morale. Used to be a wonderful place to work where everyone seemed valued and actually enjoyed their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Engage your employees and make them feel important to the success of the firm.

    Pros

I love working for Mercer. The people are for the most part fantastic, and most of them strive to succeed and hold themselves and other to high standards.

    Cons

Some of my coworkers don't care about their jobs at all and complain about working (even though they are getting paid for overtime), yet have been rewarded in all the same ways as those who do not take such a lazy approach. Does not seem fair, and thus removes some incentive to perform well.

    Advice to Management

Bonuses are lackluster when the company does poorly, but other employees get guaranteed overtime. Consider a change.

    Poor training, poor management...

    Pros

-Great pay... You can negotiate what it will take to hire you... -Very good benefits... -Lots of time off... close the office 1/2 day before the holiday for example -Work remote or from on of the other offices around the country

    Cons

-Most employees are in it for themselves... You need to have a huge ego to survive or enjoy being very self centered -There is ZERO training, honest!! -Very poor LOB leadership... How some of these folks make it to a leadership role is amazing... stunning actually... -Leadership does not believe in the performance review process... you put your plan in place, have it signed off by your manager and then witness them never reviewing and using it as planned... Amazing exercise in wasting time -Expect a RIF (reduction in force) 2-3 times per year

    Advice to Management

Stop the facade of wanting to be a sales organization... It will never happen...

    Pros

No grunt work here. Gain valuable training and experience with top tier clients from day one.

    Cons

As with most consulting firms, expect to put in lots of hours and get little reward - especially for those off the actuarial track.

    Pros

Descent benefits. The work life balance has gotten better

    Cons

Some smart people but also some real morons. No clear cut criteria for promotion/advancement, at least there is a criteria, but it is not followed at all. Double standards are rampant in this company and for some reason they reward failure by promoting those people up.

    Advice to Management

The stock of this company has done absolutely nothing; therefore as your reward you should share in the "inflation" salary increase that you bestowed on all of your employees and you should be stripped of your bonus and redistribute that money to the people that actually bring in revenue to the company.
