Pros
Great people
Array of different areas of business to work in.
Cons
Pays and progression
A lot of management levels and CEOs (very confusing).
Pros
Excellent training for not only your current role, but future career opportunities.
Great people to work with
Cons
Upper management are 100% shareholder-driven and make it known to their employees.
Message is given that the Australian arm of the business is doing exceptionally well, but they can't fiscally reward the employees for their hard work.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop trying to Americanise us, and start treating us as respected and valued employees!
Pros
Work timings are good
coleagues are helpful and nice
Top managers are transparent
compliance
cool environment
Cons
opportunities
biased middle level seniors e.g. project lead, module lead
learning opportunities
enthusiasm
salary hike
Advice to Senior Management
they should be more transparent, so nobody can play big games, few stories are acceptables but big games are really sad for management
Pros
Most co-workers and managers have been okay to work with, people are friendly, benefits are okay. there does seem to be room for advancement if you are driven and if it's your goal to move up.
Cons
Raises are poor. Also, you have to be a certain level to get a bonus, it doesn't seem like they value the support staff. Communication is terrible - each office or department seems to work on their own and it's near impossible to figure out what everyone does or what resources are available. Very disorganized...
Pros
They provided complementary breakfast and deserts regularly which was very nice. They also had a really great training program for the new hires.
Cons
My direct management was not very qualified. She was always overwhelmed with client issues and was poor with communicating information to employees.
Pros
big company in a growing industry
Cons
it is a public company and pressures along side that
Advice to Senior Management
better opportunity and line of sight
Pros
Talented individuals to partner with and plenty of career growth opportunity. Staff cares about their clients and wants to provide quality services at a fair price.
Cons
As with any large organization there are many layers and politics. Change is slow.
Advice to Senior Management
Not a lot of connection to senior managment. It would be good to have more frequent and effective communications to employees to share the vision of the firm.
Pros
Decent opportunities to learn new skills
Excellent benefits
Fair compensation
Mercer is a global firm
Cons
Limited opportunity to advance, depending on which department you work in
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage and reward Mercer employees to be proficient in their current roles
Pros
Some interesting work
Good Client interactions
E-learning / self development very accessible
Cons
Lack of communication from Managers
Constant re-organization and changes with poor management
Managers pick favorites and direct work/rewards to them and not other high performers
Very "US" and local centric for an allegedly Global company
Advice to Senior Management
As a consulting organization, success lies in client facing individuals - these people need to be treated fairly and valued as contributors
Pros
Mercer is a mature company where you could have a set of well designed training.
Cons
Need to work over time a lot.
