    Pros

Training via experience is very varied and deep.

    Cons

Caught in the middle segment Mercer is attacked by the minnows on smaller clients and has difficulty with landing the larger clients.

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Nice and generally clever people. Great offices, benefits and canteen! Well-regarded firm.

    Cons

Time consuming performance management processes in place, but then there is no support for managers who try to follow through action plans relating to non-performers. This affects the morale of those who perform well and have to carry the extra weight.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more support for managers to manage those who aren't performing in the role.

    Pros

The people I work with are great. There's a strong focus on flexibility and ensuring that employees are treated like adults. There's also a really good employee benefits programme with new initiatives regularly being added.

    Cons

At times the matrix nature of the organisation means that there can be more red tape then you'd like but this is widely acknowledged as something to rectify

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The UK Leadership team is definitely helping to imprive the focus and engagement within the organisation and this is also being replicated at the global level which is great to see

    Mercer - Work Life Balance?

Current Employee - Senior Investment Consulting Analyst  in  London, England (UK)
Current Employee - Senior Investment Consulting Analyst in London, England (UK)

    Pros

    - Good support for study
    - Good people
    - Flat structure with knowledgeable and accessible senior consultants
    - Large variety of work and great chance to learn the ins and out of the industry
    - Global company provides insights from around the globe

    Cons

    - Uncompetive pay and reward structure
    - Currently understaffed
    - Over focus on chargeable hours
    - Growth businesses are at time disadvantaged by poorer performing areas of the business
    - Turn over higher than ideal

Incredibly arrogant management, little sense of cohesion and teamwork, and no incentive to share client work

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  London, England (UK)
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)

    Pros

Exposure to global clients and projects, opportunities to learn about the business through online training and colleagues

    Cons

The management is arrogant and directionless and the company culture is that of a typical consultancy: talking big and impressing people around you. There is absolutely no incentive to share work amongst colleagues as bonuses are based on individual and department performance, so cross-line of business work is discouraged by managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put competent people in managerial positions instead of those who are just good sales people making empty promises.

Not quite a leader in improving the workforce.

    • Career Opportunities
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  London, England (UK)
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)

    Pros

The fringe benefits of working here were the only positives, such as: networking opportunities, flexible benefits and office location

    Cons

This experience is specific to the line of business in which I operated. However, the lack of support from human resources and management would make me think twice before recommending the company as a whole. Particularly, the cons were:
    Poor communication
    Autocratic culture
    Poor employee support

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Assess the contribution of smaller LOBs and weed out the failed managers who inhibit the business by upholding their outdated status quo through bullying.

    Negative Outlook
