Cons
Headcount reductions are driving significant stress
Advice to Senior Management
Right ideas, blind implimentation
Pros
- Highly smart and competent people.
- High degree of responsibility, as well as freedom
- You have space to define yourself
Cons
- Company going through a change, which is a questionable strategy in itself.
- Extremely limited opportunities for advancement in the current environment
- Merger with Schering hasn't still stabilized the working environement here. Confusion still exists.. policies and organizations are still being consolidated
- Productivitiy is up, mainly due to fear of job loss
- Salaries and compensation is being constrained.
Pros
Reasonable compensation
Good Work / Life balance
Cons
Unless you drink the coolaid... you are going to be very dissatisfied. The culture of Merck did not mix well with that of Schering-Plough.
Pros
there is a fair amount of work life balance
Cons
compensation could be better as bonus is a large portion of total package
Pros
Products Experience People and benefits
Cons
Business Model to strict to serv the pourpose
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your employees
Pros
Compensation is good.
Benefits are also good.
The people (most of them) are friendly, courteous and professional.
The technology is fairly up-to-date and modern.
Cons
Layoffs!
Top senior management gets ridiculous compensation (tens of millions), then pushes to lay off employees. The methods used to accomplish things are unnecessarily complex, when something more simple and straightforward would do the job more quickly and accurately.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop compensating top management such obscene amounts.
Pros
Education and development of my position
Cons
Current economy is poor and effects the business
Advice to Senior Management
Employee development is key to keeping good employees. As the economy and market faces more competition retaining experienced workers is a key to Merck's success.
Pros
Very good benefits; employees are treated with respect; a great name to have in a resume.
Cons
Limited career advancement opportunities, and those available are often given to those who have been around the longest even if they are not the most competent. Critical to have a sponsor/mentor to push for you.
Pros
The Benefits and salary are excellent overall. Especially the retirement package makes it worthwhile to stay. There are also good people overall to work with.
Cons
Pharmaceuticals is a difficult industry given the state of the industry and the economy. It plays an important role in society though.
Advice to Senior Management
I believe the management is doing a good job overall. Sometimes I question whether the costs associated with outsourcing is really a savings.
Pros
Pay and Benefits - Job is great when you don't have a micro manager.
Cons
3 mgrs in 4 years... People throwing each other under the bus, reps, managers... No direction... Lack of pipeline.
Advice to Senior Management
The company has to wake up and realize it's not the early 90's anymore. Company lives in it's storied past.
