Former Employee - Senior Project Manager in Feltham, England (UK)

I worked at Merck Serono full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free fruit, cheap lunch, cheap massages

    Cons

Very disorganised, its amazing anything productive or of any value gets done. Extremely hierarchical, process driven with some extremely bad behaviours which are encouraged and rewarded. This company doesn't make anything easy for itself

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you hire people to do jobs, let them do the job. Don't allow people to be over-ruled so easily when they have the experience in that area. Review decision making matrices.

I worked at Merck Serono full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The work was quite varied and challenging. My immediate colleagues were extremely professional in their attitudes and also very skilled in their respective fields. I enjoyed the camaraderie and the desire to do a good job.

    Cons

The company sometimes lacked a true appreciation of their staff. Claiming for T&E's was a nightmare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't throw away the talent after investing so much; look to retain staff rather than take a short term view. Try to listen to them.
