    Rewarding with good leadership

    Registered Nurse (Former Employee)
    Canton, OH

ProsThe atmosphere is pleasant. The nursing leadership is pretty good. Continuing and furthering Education is strongly supported.

ConsThe benefits are not as strong as at Aultman. Most of the long-term personnel in mangement are given special privelage. Many of the staff are resistant to change.

    Good pay, great benefits.

    Medical Transcriptionist (Current Employee)
    Canton, OH

    ProsGood pay and great benefits

ConsThey are downsizing many departments, such as mine. They have laid off people without any notice. It is just a big business, not a "caring hospital" as they promote.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to be a little kinder to employees. We sit in an office that is freezing because the boss' office is too hot for her.

Thankful for a job, but horrified how this place is managed!!!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Canton, OH

    ProsGood people to work with.

ConsDepartmental Management if horrible!! No one follows Company policies! The pay scale is so low I don't know how they expect people to live...

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper Management needs to stay on top of Departmental directors and managers. They need to have a more active discussion with it's employees in a confidential manner.

Mercy is the most poorly run hospital I have ever worked for

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Merced, CA

ProsAttempts to provide excellent patient care

ConsIt seems that upper management does not listen to the experienced people who work the floors. We have so much to offer yet it seems they keep making thing worse. Nurses are totally pushed to being overwhelmed on a daily basis yet management refuses to listen, or try different idea's to improve. They continue to cut staff and make our jobs almost intolerable.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen, Listen and Listen. For example : One of the floors is being managed by a Clinical Director who recieved this position by default. She has been given so many chances by Upper Management to improve her leadership,, fairness, HIPPA complience. On many occasion staff has attempted to talk with management yet nothing is ever done. This person continue's to act as Clinical Manager . How long will Upper Management allow this person to continue to run the floor into the ground. She is a excellent example of "A Leader who will go any lengths to improve her visability as a Clinical Manager". This includes :accepting praise for the doing's of others, lying, demeaning staff in front of others, favortism, etc.

    Inconsistency creates conflict

    Pharmacy Technician (Current Employee)
    Canton, OH

ProsPositive mission and values; friendly staff; considerate patient care.

ConsSome departments/individuals don't align themselves with the values of the institution which created conflict for me. The department I worked in didn't seem to 'play by the rules' which made me feel frustrated. It would seem important for an institution with a strong religious/humanitarian mission to have department managers, who choose to work there, support these values in their individual areas. At times, my department was a real embarassment in it's general attitude toward the people they served.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want the hospital and staff to share the mission, check with the individual departments to see how well the managers are (or are not) supporting the values of the institution.
