I have been working at Mercy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Family-like atmosphere, coworkers are always there for you, vision is great and expectations are high, competitive pay. Constant expectations from upper management is not as cut-throat as I've seen in other facilities, more of a tough-love environment. We feel like we are all components in the work toward the greater good. Not easy all of the time!

    Cons

Health benefits are restrictive, only pay well if you use mercy system doctors/hospital, cutbacks are taking a toll, chronically short staffed partly due to shortage in the field, the culture is great but the lack of staff can make it incredibly stressful. The hospital is doing the best it can for patient care, I can assure you that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a closer look at how much staff is truly needed, employees get fatigued when working on a skeleton crew for months and years on end. They are good as gold, but some relief would go far. Productivity numbers should be reviewed for accuracy.

I worked at Mercy full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Mercy is focused on co-worker satisfaction and promotes a very respectful environment, much different than my previous employer. I found co-workers and most leaders to really embrace the culture.

    Cons

My position was eliminated due to financial headwinds. I understand that every company has those, and especially due to reduced reimbursements from the new healthcare mandate, Mercy is experiencing those as well. However, it is difficult to see them spend huge amounts of money on things that don't matter and then cut positions that affect their people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more video conferences and let private jet travel. Quit renovating conference rooms that are perfectly fine.

    Pros

The people are caring. Management cares if you succeed. The mission is important and a good one. They live by their mission. Every day you feel like you are helping people.

    Cons

Medical industry budget cuts. Just went through a lay off. Rumor is, there are more coming.

I have been working at Mercy full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There are many reasons that I feel Mercy is an excellent company, however, I will just list a few. #1, they are caring about the patients but also very dedicated to the staff and encourage a positive growth oriented environment; 2, they listen; 3, Both motivation and drive are encouraged and you can be involved in as much of the organization as you want, 4, they strive to advance forward in all realms of healthcare, including virtual medicine, EHR growth and Patient Information.

    Cons

I really cannot think of many CONS other than like all jobs the pay is equitable but never enough, yet when looking at healthcare as a whole, and comparing to other organizations, Mercy is competitive, especially for the rural communities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just continue to listen to the coworkers and communicate the growth within the organization.

I have been working at Mercy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This is more than a job, it is a ministry in serving others. The employees are treated like it's a big family, not just 1 of thousands of employees. Daily prayers are shared over the whole hospital. You are encouraged to sit and visit with the patients to help them feel important. They really care about the patients that are in their hospital, they are not just a way to make money.

    Cons

I can not name any cons at this time. I'm very happy working for Mercy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work that you do!
