I have been working at Meredith Corporation full-time

    Pros

    Great benefits and Wellness program.

    Cons

A lot of middle management has no idea what they are doing and are very pompous and rightous. All-for-one mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no growth for entry-level positions. Great company but no upward mobility unless you are a Director or Publisher.

    Pros

People are kind, and everyone is willing to help out when needed. The hours are flexible, and if you're a full-time employee there are great benefits.

    Cons

Most entry level positions are temp. jobs and thus you don't get benefits. There's not a lot of room for career growth.

    Pros

This is a company with great senior leadership with a dynamic CEO. There is a highly balanced work life attitude, typical benefits and its best asset is that it attracts generally nice people that are wiling to help each other, which is a unique characteristic in the magazine industry. They care for the health and well being for employees and provide benefits that drive that sentiment. It is highly structured and provides good lines of communication between management and employees.

    Cons

There is little opportunity for advancement and no apparent plan for fostering growth for talented employees. HR is a weak link and seems shackled by its leadership. Mass layoffs are frequent and tend to impact the publishing group. The digital division is underfunded and reactive to market trends rather than leading the trends. Salaries are lower compared to similar companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rather than laying people off, consider training and transitioning traditional publishing staff to digital media jobs. Improve salaries, promote from within.

    Pros

Best part of working here is the benefits and the fact your products are nationally-recognized - great resume builder!

    Cons

Poor compensation, no job security whatsoever, poor work life overall. Highly political work environment.

    I worked at Meredith Corporation

    Pros

Great company culture and work ethic by all. Work well across company divisions.

    Cons

lots of layoffs due to the nature of the media business. It's not a company con, just an industry con. There are certain parts of the business that are more about "not my job" than being a team players, but that gets weeded out quick.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked with some of my favorite people in the business and looked forward to going work everyday. It was really all about the people.

    Cons

After multiple rounds of shocking layoffs, the morale is low. It also remains a bit stagnant since print isn't integrating fast enough with digital. There is limited growth and learning potential since most middle management positions have been removed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to find new ways to motivate staff and promote growth and learning to keep top talent.

    Pros

Flexible hours and great people to work with. The managers care about you and really try to help you learn and be successful within the company.

    Cons

I don't really have any cons. Things can get a little crazy when trying to reach meet deadlines, but that's what to expect from a bigger company I guess.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time

    Pros

There are still some good people there from pre-Meredith days.

    Cons

Meredith treats the website like their magazines by putting ads everywhere. They don't allow for product advocacy among the employees -- it's completely product-driven.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Meredith is an extremely smart company. They know how to function in a cost effective manner, unlike Time Inc (which is probably why they are on the decline). The are extremely organized and are fair .

    Cons

The pay here is not great, but I would always pick having a happy life over one with more money. They have tons of parenting titles yet they do not provide women any benefits when going on maternity leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing.
