    Pros

Great brands, smart CEO, dedicated workforce, good work/life balance.

    Cons

Aging audience and brands, declining print revenue, B-grade digital leadership and workforce. AllRecipes.com acquisition was smart, but then they Meredith-ized it (a word that means "optimized but in such a way that it becomes less efficient"). Digital is held up as the future of the company but can't seem to turn a profit and continues to be propped up by print. Layoffs are an annual ritual, which is good for bottom line but bad for morale and employee loyalty.

    Advice to Management

    Keep CEO, replace CDO.

    Pros

I worked in the Hispanic Media department. The team is small and feels like family. For a person that wants to learn, this is a great area to shine on your position and get your hands on other stuff that is of your interest too. People are super friendly, supervisors are very accesible, can be flexible, and love to share your achievements with upper management and the rest of the team.

    Cons

Sometimes work can get a quite hectic, specially when someone is out... hours can be long sometimes. Corporate benefits are not great, but other perks make up for it. Growth might be difficult sometimes because of the amount of layers it takes for approval.

    Advice to Management

My personal experience with management has been great. I know they make the best out of what they are being given.

If the magazine is in good standing (and your position is solid), you could have a long, satisfying career there.

    Cons

New Oxford package isn't that great.

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting the good people and keep office morale positive.

Hard to move up the ladder, difficult to compete in the marketplace still being print-focused

    Pros

none that I can think of

    Cons

so busy buying companies then bungling the actual integration of these companies into their daily work lives. constant reorgs. constant layoffs. management could care less about how/if things are really working -- they just constantly tinker like the employees are pieces in the chess match of their pleasure.

    Advice to Management

tune in to the people that work there. actually CARE - don't just SAY you do because it's obvious you don't. give people the tools to thrive (and yes, sometimes that actually costs you money but in the long run it pays off)

    Pros

News can be exciting -- when you aren't working 12 hour days, 5 days in a row

    Cons

There's no appreciation for long hours and hard work. There's always something wrong.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your people and don't hold them back

    Pros

It's a job that will pay your bills. And look good on your resume. Some great colleagues. But it's hard to get attached to anyone/anything given the constant layoffs, reorgs and buying/selling of mags.

    Cons

So many hearts broken here. So many layolffs. Management is really good at pretending to care, but when push comes to shove, you're on the outside looking in.

    Advice to Management

Put the family back in this company. Reward the worker bees. Return to team-building. Look at the turnover within departments. Not everything/everyone can be bought and sold.
