I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great and the work environment and people are second to none. Good career management and personal growth roadmaps for employees that desire them.

    Cons

Layoffs are ALWAYS on the horizon. Working there entails being able to live with the cloud over your head that you or someone you work closely with will be laid off anytime.

    Advice to Management

Make better fiscal plans for growth so employees don't need to worry about the possibility that they will be let go at any time.

    Pros

A place to up your professional skills, and network. Opportunity to work on some iconic brands, and learn.

    Cons

Extreme micromanagement. Since it's a publicly traded company, every quarter tends to be lay-off time if you don't hit your numbers.

    Advice to Management

Lose some of the micromanagement and be open to bringing in fresh, new ideas.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

401k, health and dental benefits. The magazines would frequently have "beauty sales" where the products (usually high-end) used in photoshoots would be up for grabs for about a dollar a piece.

    Cons

Meredith is a massive corporation so I can't speak for its entirety, but my former department was notorious for low salaries, pathetic raises if any, and nickel & diming every project which made hiring freelancers downright embarrassing. It was a frustrating work environment with high-strung disorganized management.

    Advice to Management

    Buy a calendar. Use it.

I have been working at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Friendly and comfortable work pace.

    Cons

Not exciting, low wages compared to industry standard, too many approvals needed to complete tasks, very difficult to hire staff, outdated computer software for HR

    Advice to Management

Do a major overall on HR. Reduce approvals needed to hire staff. Adjust salaries and benefits for each office. ie prices in New York and California are much higher for health care than Des Moines.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time

    Pros

Great people, collaboration across business units pretty good. Nice mid town NYC location. Benefits Pro-active health plan.

    Cons

As a media company in 2015, Meredith has ZERO sex appeal. Stuck in the old Midwestern roots ways. The main lobby of their NYC flagship office looks like it could be from the Mad Men Era. All the corp leadership cares about is maintaining the dividend. There is no risk tolerance, other than small incremental acquisitions, there is no bold vision. Missed the boat on cable TV in the 90's. TV stations driving the company now, and they still play it safe with acquisitions, having come in 2nd for several TV group deals. Each spring, staffers can look forward to a major layoff, their only tool to deal with declining print revenue. The print team still relies on cattle call RFP's. The company website re-boot in 2014 was badly needed, but again , no pizzazz, something a kid with HS development skills could have built.

    Advice to Management

Take some risk, go big on acquisition, even (heaven forbid) take on a little debt. If the dividend takes a hit, deal with the short term stock market hit, for long term growth.
