I have been working at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are generally very friendly and the benefits are good for full time employees. The benefits also don't have as many "gotcha" clauses like other employers have. For instance, health coverage starts immediately and there is a 401k match after a year that you are immediately vested in. The hiring process was pretty straightforward and work life balance is encouraged. I think most departments are pretty flexible with working remotely.

    Cons

Frequent layoffs, usually every 3 months before the quarterly earnings report comes out. Anyone could get cut at any time. With the constant acquisitions and restructuring it is hard to get support for your projects and priorities before they change. Temp and freelance employees are used to cut costs instead of employing full time workers.

    Advice to Management

Improve the websites and digital products. If Meredith is going to successfully transition into the digital age cheap-looking websites with a dozen annoying ads per page are not going to attract consumers.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People here are kind, collaborative, and hard-working. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

As a manager, I did more firing than hiring over the years due to restructuring and layoffs. And then my turn to get laid off came recently after giving a decade to the company.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your talent. Stop making acquisitions you can't afford.

    Pros

Meredith is focused on growth and has become the most respected media company.

    Cons

Unfortunately with growth in one area, there is a balance to maintain so regular layoffs go with the territory.

    Pros

Strong premium digital network including Allrecipes.com, Parents.com, BHG.com. Cohesive with very large scale reaching Women/Moms.

    Cons

Recent digital management team has made significant changes without understanding the marketplace and/or internal processes, structure, clients' issues, etc.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Meredith Corporation (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Meredith has some very strong brands and a clear vision on how to grow. Management invests in brands that need some attention to flourish. They will continue to consolidate.

    Cons

New additions put added pressure on the bottom line. To hit earnings forecasts tough choices have to be made resulting in cutbacks

    Advice to Management

Find a way to keep more marketing talent. Brands are looking for ideas beyond the great content provided by the magazine brands
