I worked at Meredith Corporation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Wonderfully accommodating staff and work place environment. Everyone was incredibly helpful and the company promotes a great lifestyle

    Cons

The department seems to be in a process of re-organization and optimization. With so many moving parts, some editors seemed at a loss at what to do to improve.

    Pros

Everyone is very friendly and the people there are great at what they do.

    Cons

Not necessarily a con, but you must be ready to adapt to different situations which require new tools or practices to complete a project.

I have been working at Meredith Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked at many publishing companies, and Meredith is the most balanced, most pleasant and most positive environment I've encountered. Friendly, down to earth people willing to help, access to senior-level management and opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Print and digital aren't integrated which is a major disadvantage for sellers and marketers. Things tend to move VERY slowly here, and they aren't big on real innovation - always feels a little behind the others. Mass layoffs are also fairly common, once or twice a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more opportunity for growth within the organization. There are 2 programs in place, but one seems to cater to senior management and the other to entry level. What about everyone else?

    Pros

Positive atmosphere, Creative Freedom. Management tries to be supportive and understand. Open minded to new technology and training. Good teams atmosphere.

    Cons

Understaffed and it's widely known that the whole facility is paid well market value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management doesn't understand how to manage creative teams and loses money and moral because of it.

    Pros

Great benefits, friendly environment, managers care about the little guys. Everyone seems to really be a team player and are very welcoming of new employees.

    Cons

None that i have encountered yet. The only thing that may be a downside is the fact that you can be put on-call and rotating shifts may make your home life schedule tough to manage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep it up.

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time

    Pros

Fundamentally solid company; treat employees well. Working hard to transition from a print centric company to a multi-media, horizontally and vertically integrated media leader

    Cons

Large company where there are silos...constant pressure to keep stock price high leads to consistent layoffs and major mood swings for the company at large

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

continue to pound that they are more than a magazine company

Former Employee - Corporate Research in New York, NY

I worked at Meredith Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people - hard, smart workers. I had a great manager which made a big difference. Collaborated with various teams to produce meaningful results. Team building initiatives were welcome and appreciated.

    Cons

Constant fear of lay-offs. Fear of ever-popular "re-orgs" which seem to leave everyone with more work for the same amount of pay. Department often lost headcount. Not much room to grow title-wise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees need to know more of what's going on. Constant fear of staff reduction is hard to thrive under. Provide performance incentives. For a company that depends entirely on "family" consumers, it doesn't always treat its employees that way.
