Former Employee – worked at Merge Healthcare
Pros – Enjoyed working with the people on my project team, flexible work schedule, Merge has interesting ideas for integrating health IT systems.
Cons – Lack of respect for employees from upper management, who are more concerned about putting on a "show" for customers and the bottom line. Constantly putting strain on development teams due to lack of resources, time, and support. Very unorganized because of all the acquisitions, they need to concentrate on the products they already have.
Advice to Senior Management – Throw the employees a bone every now and then. Give them the resources to do their jobs effectively instead of handing out iPads like candy to customers.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at Merge Healthcare
Pros – I'm trying to think of just one positive thing to say about Merge Healthcare, but for the life of me, can't think of anything, other than working with some very talented health IT developers.
Cons – No resources. No resources. No resources. Loud mouths. Yelling. Scary derrieres. Lots of swear words. Lots of threats and the F-word used frequently.
Advice to Senior Management – Please hurry and sell this company to Allscripts, or other player who really knows what they are doing in the healthcare IT space. Puh-leeeeeease!

Former Employee – worked at Merge Healthcare
Pros – Decent benefits. Decent people working. Helps you grow tougher skin. Some of the execs are nice. I heard that canadian offices are nice.
Cons – Arrogant sales execs, disrespectful owner. Employees are at the bottom of the company's list of concerns. It will throw tons of money on shiny trinkets, flatscreens in every corner, new laptops and free iPads to sales, while developers work on 5+ year old laptops.
Advice to Senior Management – Care about your employees a bit more. You don't need to pamper them like you do your customers, but some recognition would be nice

Current Employee – been working at Merge Healthcare
Pros – Exciting industry to work in, but nothing specific to the company.
Cons – Totally money driven company that hasn't shown any interest in maintaining or keeping employees happy.
Advice to Senior Management – Value your employees because they are the ones who create and support the software you sell.

Current Employee – been working at Merge Healthcare full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The eClinical Division is delivering a game changing software solution into the Clinical Trials technology space. In the last 12 months the Division's approach to technology and service has evolved at a staggering pace, exploiting a vision which is radical and unmatched in the competitive landscape. This is the best game in town bar none.
Cons – With every successful execution of strategy comes a higher expectation of future performance. This is not really a "Con" rather a fact of life in a company which is carving out market share from its competitors and acquiring new share in territories and customers on a regular basis.
Advice to Senior Management – Execution of the Division's vision is past the tipping point, so, as the Business Development engine moves into top gear it is vital that all departments fine tune their performance so we truly can "Cross the Chasm".

Current Employee – been working at Merge Healthcare full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Working with the eClinical division has been quite a ride... Seen a lot of the company's vision and potential realized. Surrounded by a great team: direct manager, sales director, up to the General Manager. All bring with them exciting & new ideas, and ways to help individuals -- and the company -- succeed.
Cons – Rapid and continued growth. Not a CON really -- but it does bring its own challenges.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep on the path. Everyone is benefiting from it.

Current Employee – been working at Merge Healthcare full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – - Developers are great people who are dedicated
Cons – 1. The pay is low
2. They do not pay bonus because of the debt load from the AMICAS buy that seems to not be yielding the results they expected
3. They do not treat employees fair. Often when you give up your weekends, and evenings for tight releases the best you get from your manager is "sorry" or "thank you"
4. Attrition is high here
5. Your input is not important to them
6. Communication between departments is not important
Overall I found that my couple of years here are not to not be fun at all. Jeff Surges often asks us to work harder ... even though we are spread thin already. Management will ask for sacrifices but I do not see them making the same sacrifice.
People here are not happy. Despite what some others say here there are a lot of un-happy people.
Advice to Senior Management – 1. pay your employees better
2. Do not expect that your employees are available 24/7
3. Get some communication between departments.
4. If you want to get your budget in check try dumping the older employees who are overpaid from all the acquired companies!
