Great company to work for, just depends on the property that you manage.

I worked at Merit Property Management full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits for employees, they have a wellness plan to get a discount on medical insurance, able to move up within the company.

    Cons

May not be able to move up depending on the property you're at. Hard to get a hold of people at the corporate office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management shouldn't treat their employees like numbers.

Worst company I have ever worked for

I worked at Merit Property Management

    Pros

    They pay you on payday

    Cons

This is a disorganized company where, at least at my branch, management came in at 10:00 and left at 3:00 and pinned all of their failures on those working a full day. They create a very stressful, hostile environment, and do things of questionable legality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work at least as hard as you expect your direct reports to.

I worked at Merit Property Management part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Merit was decent. They were able to work around my schedule as I was getting my Bachelor's degree at the time.

    Cons

I was not permitted to advance at all, even when the position directly above me became available. They also had a certain budget for the position above me, which they went beyond when they hired the selected individual for the position. Throughout the three years I worked there, I had been told that there was a pay freeze and thus that is why I was never given a raise. But of course they can go over budget for the new hire ;)

I have been working at Merit Property Management full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Company continues to grow at a 10%+ rate year over year
    Opportunities for career development
    Outstanding senior leadership
Parent company is active and invested in seeing this company be #1

    Cons

Pay scale is definitely on the short side. Don't expect to get rich here.
There doesn't seem to be a rewards mechanism for outstanding performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Investment in those that show initiative and a desire to grow would be a great start.

I worked at Merit Property Management full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

In property management itself, as well as accounting, there can be lots of growth potential, but other roles within the company tend to only allow so far to rise.

    Cons

If you're ambitious, you have to be willing to be a property manager. Otherwise, good luck moving up in the company. Work-life balance is completely screwed up, too. I know managers who'd work 14 hour days 7 days a week and still be behind.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in all of the employees, not just some.
