I worked at Meriter Health Services part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, beautiful office settings, generally amicable patient base, many informative meetings about upcoming workplace changes, free parking

    Cons

while there are many informative meetings about upcoming changes, the purpose of the changes is to maintain current patient base and to means to grow the patient base in a region where Meriter is the underdog in the new Obamacare environment. So things are as staffing lean as possible with overtime strongly discouraged yet patient needs are to be met cheerfully but within office hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop recreating the health industry wheel. Use the experience manifested by advice of your staff from other health competitors instead of out of town advisors.

I worked at Meriter Health Services for less than a year

    Pros

Pay was decent. Benefits seemed good as well (vacation build up was awesome).

    Cons

Toxic work environment. Horrible work ethic. Managers, supervisors and staff quitting left and right (if they haven't already quit, they're looking to get out). Specific employees lack empathy for patients and fellow coworkers; sweet to the face and horrible behind the backs. Constant bad mouthing of upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Weed out the toxic employees that make daily life intolerable, morale may just go up.

I have been working at Meriter Health Services

    Pros

Enjoyed opportunities to work on a wide range of projects at a small community hospital. Teams worked very well together and many employees stayed for 30+ years.

    Cons

Changes in leadership had a negative impact on culture for some resulting in some of the best people leaving in 2014.

I worked at Meriter Health Services as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Had the opportunity to work with some great people and learn things about the corporate side of business, which was new to me.

    Cons

It was a pretty boring job. Very office-y feeling, which just isn't my style. It was a bit mundane and repetitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to let the intern "own" a project. I know that was the goal for me, and my availability sort of messed that up.

Former Employee - Unit RN in Madison, WI

I worked at Meriter Health Services

    Pros

Serving and supporting health, spirit, and healing for patients and families; terrific co-workers; RN's treated better than other support staff, wonderful Palliative Care Team, some good physicians, good cardiac unit.

    Cons

Extremely deceitful management, focused only on bottom line, to detriment of patient and family care and staff morale; poor communication of goals (change often); financially reward top management much more than deserved; lowered reputation in community in past few years, lack of awareness of connection between excellent/adequate spiritual care and pt healing: just not well-integrated across disciplines. As with all healthcare, too much RN leadership and not enough representation of other disciplines (and I'm an RN!).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote greater self-care for staff; integrate holitic practices more fully, stop lying to staff, get more disciplines involved in leadership; respect all disciplines' contributions and pay for these justly.

I have been working at Meriter Health Services

    Pros

I'm a physician employed by Meriter, in the Meriter Medical Group. Meriter is pouring resources into this group, and sincerely seems interested in develop the group into a quality group that is competitive in all respects to other multispecialty groups. Management has improved vastly from five years ago, and the current CEO and COO are stellar.

    Cons

Any hospital has it's bureaucratic issues, and Meriter is no exception. At times it seems difficult to effect small changes or improvements without undue process or delay, especially if money is involved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, and continue to focus on making processes and resources focused on good and efficient patient care.
