A once great company systematically destroyed by executive leader's lack of concern for its employees.

    Pros

Great people with a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge. Ability to work on multiple projects, globally.

    Cons

Senior leaderships' complete lack of respect for employees (especially HR). Always concerned with only the financial ROI. Lack of career development, weak succession planning and non-existant workforce planning. HR function relegated to that of simple administrative order takers from strategic business partner. Complete lack of strategic HR functional leadership.

    Advice to Management

Focusing solely on the bottomline (ROI), at the expense of respecting your employees contributions, will continue to fuel your top contributors' desire to find employment elsewhere.

I have been working at Meritor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good paying company. Rewards those that excel. You control your destiny. Company is working toward building a stronger upper management.

    Cons

Lack of long term strategy. Management - eyes are bigger than their stomach. No development for employees. As you move up the chain, you will be expected to work many long hours - 50 to 60+. As times have gotten tougher, the politics have increased exponentially the past couple of years.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your biggest asset to grow the company - your employees.

I have been working at Meritor full-time

    Pros

The management team is pushing down to turn the business around in Aftermarket business unit.

    Cons

Aftermarket future is uncertain. Workload is very high and feel always behind. Overloaded work load is a common theme in the Aftermarket business unit. No work-life balance. Lack of team spirit. Individual agenda seems to take place over team agenda. The plant associates are considered step child by the corporate management team. Too many finance directors left the company within a year which give bad signal to others.

    Advice to Management

Put people first before your business goals. People are the one who make differences in your organization and drive and achieve business goals. Allow people to take vacation, maintain a work life balance just like you do at the corporation. Take care if your people first!

I worked at Meritor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Superb engineering talent coupled with excellent business managers who understand their client's needs and anticipate where the trucking industry is going. Nobody is resting on their laurels.

    Cons

The company has a very long and strong history that can hinder development times. Better to be safe than sorry is "safe", but opportunities today only last a short while and the early bird catches the worm!! Nothing that talent and zeal of the employees cannot overcome!!

    Advice to Management

They've got ready, aim down pat! Just need to pull the trigger a little more often...

I worked at Meritor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are some great people at Meritor! Employees who are willing to go the extra mile to achieve the company's goals. The company has great potential and the recent change in upper management may be a big boost.

    Cons

Bureaucratic Nightmare: Not the most efficient methods of doing things. Often when employees suggest (department dependent) more efficient methods of achieving goals (for example via the use of technology) there is little support. Salary can be an issue. If you start at the company at the lower range of your grade, you are likely to remain at the low end. HR Red Tape (needing this degree or that) prevents existing and tenured employees from advancing although they have demonstrated skills and proven experience.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are your experts. Listen to them. Trust them. Reward their success and forgive (some) of their mistakes.
