I worked at Merlin International full-time

    Pros

Good pay, generous, smart leadership and entrepreneurial environment.

    Cons

Constant changes in direction and focus made it difficult to make progress. Often a distrustful environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See things through and give them time to work. Remember it is a small company and that some large company ideas and structures don't make sense. It is okay to be a small company.

    I worked at Merlin International

    Pros

The people I worked with on a day to day basis were awesome. Great benefits and PTO. Generous severance.

    Cons

Pay is below average and raises are hard to come by. No room for career advancement unless someone quits. Hard work not recognized or appreciated by the executive team. Based on some of the things I saw, I can say that Executives' priorities are definitely not in the right place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company is way too top heavy. More worker bees, less queen bees!

Most disappointing work experience in 10 years

I worked at Merlin International full-time

    Pros

Good pay with good insurance choices
Payroll department always on the ball
    Good recruiters
    Pleasant project manager
    Good self-service website

    Cons

Contract HR personnel do not follow through with email setup, communication on how to enroll in insurance, how to enroll on self-serve website. No excuse for not having an email account after 12 weeks of employment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire your contract HR folks and get direct hires who keep promises and follow up, and make them accountable if they don't.

I have been working at Merlin International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible working arrangements, ability to work from home
    Compensation / Benefits are decent

    Cons

No sense of how to run a software engineering division
Employees not held responsible for lack of commitment, responsibility or under-performance
Little to no feedback from management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to hire individuals into management positions that have experience with software engineering and development. Need better hiring practices to ensure the correct people are being hired for the correct positions. Far to often is an extremely unqualified individual hired for engineering positions. Need to bring in better talent.

I worked at Merlin International full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good compensation, most managers doors are open for you... Overall, the workers within the company try hard and are supportive of one another.

    Cons

Lack of direction. Merlin hasn't figured out what it wants to be when it grows up. The CEO refuses to let his executive team lead the company. Therefore, you end up with micromanagement that makes for a miserable work environment. The CTO has about as much knowledge of the industry as a high school senior, not to mention he is extremely vindictive and petty. Poor choices from the top cascade down and ruin this potentially great company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the senior leadership do their jobs. Bring in a CTO with people skills and knowledge of the industry. Stop being the laughing stock of government resellers.
