Pros
Benefits, time off, family balance, pay
Cons
Male Dominated, stressful at times, fa is most important
Pros
Co-workers were great people. Flexible hours. Communication was great in department and tasks that were to be completed were thoroughly explained.
Cons
After some time, all of the tasks became routine. Sometimes you want to engage in a new and exciting project.
Advice to Senior Management
I think they have done and continue to do a great job.
Pros
Benefits, name brand, locations nationwide
Cons
Merrill Lynch has a sink or swim mentality. They boast the best training program in the business, yet the PMD coaches aren't incented to help you. It is hard to find a good mentor in the local offices when time is money and nobody wants to help you succeed unless you split the business of a sale with them, including your boss (if they are in a producing role). Success rate is low, turn over is high and when you are in training they treat you like you are nothing.
Advice to Senior Management
Incent coaches or Financial Advisors to work with trainees. It doesn't make sense that you bring on so many new hire PMDs and don't give them the mentoring that they need.
Pros
The health coverage and benefits that you receive from Merrill Lynch were a big plus when working for this company..
Cons
I started working full time for Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management division straight out of college so I took an entry level position with the firm as a client associate. I acquired my Series 7 & 66 securities licenses within 2 years of me working and was never offered any opportunity for advancement within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat all your employees equally whether they are a top producer or someone in the back office they are all just as important.
Pros
Merrill Lynch is an excellent name to have on a resume for future jobs. You learn a lot about the corporate world working within a large bank.
Cons
As an intern, there was not much room for growth. Opportunities do present themselves for wealth management positions, but there are not other career paths.
Advice to Senior Management
Make the work environment more worker friendly. Develop your internship programs. Allow interns to have the ability to move to different branches of BOA.
Pros
They have great training. I have learned so much since I have been there. They spend a lot of money on their training.
Cons
It is very hard to be new in the industry and get clients. You have to Cold call A LOT and cold walk and do seminars........................ all while the clock is to your hurdles.
Advice to Senior Management
Great Job! They will do everything to help you. The trainee program is a big part of their grade so they want you to succeed.
Pros
Everybody knows Merrill Lynch - nice name to have on resume
Good foot in the door if you can make good connections
Right in NYC, where everything's happening
Cons
Most interns are not compensated because they do not do the most meaningful work, and you're doing the work that no one else wants to do
Pros
I learned a lot regarding the investment world that financial advisors deal with on a daily basis.
Cons
It was a lot of cold calling.
Advice to Senior Management
Make a specific program for interns.
Pros
The sky is the limit in regards to compensation. Built for self motivated people who want the flexibility to start their own practice in any way they seem fit.
Cons
Very difficult to get the business running. There is little money in the profession until 7-10 years in. The financial markets and readily available information tend to make this profession difficult.
Pros
Career opportunity, interesting projects and great people to learn from
Cons
A very big company, sadly it went away
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing to say it's great from my experience
