Pros
It is a place that gives you a chance to grow. Very supporting staff that helps you learn the trade.
Cons
As an inten in wealth management, I had to make many cold calls. However; this is the most important part in finding new clients.
Advice to Senior Management
Have the interns do more portfolio managment. Otherwise, I think this is a really great internship to start off with.
Pros
The stress is ok, not crazy. People are all very nice, especially managers.
Cons
Compensation is not as good as other comparable places.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more senior people.
Pros
It was an internship that I did. Team was small, was nervous at first, but got adjusted really well. Everyone was very helpful.
Cons
It did not have a proper educational program. CIGNA I know for a fact has a program for students that has a more proper scheduled program.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a more scheduled program as a form of training. You will get your money's worth for, company projects will be more productive
Pros
good benefits, good evnirnment for nice place
Cons
a lot of pressure, not always a team environment
Advice to Senior Management
more team roll
Pros
- Better than being unemployed
- Brand continues to be reputable
Cons
- Bonus potential very poor: expect big haircut for new hires if IMG provides target
- Incentives not aligned for people to perform well: no rewards for strong performances
- Management poor and bureaucratic
- Work doesn't prepare you for better career options
- Low morale among employees
Advice to Senior Management
Reward good work esp through bonus potential. Improve mgmt & fight for budget like a revenue-generating org
Pros
Strong Brand Name recognition and good benefits.
Cons
Poor Management and lack of proper training.
Advice to Senior Management
invest in your employees if you want them to remain loyal.
Pros
Great company, lot to learn and open to new younger talent. Always a plus for interns and recent college grads.
Cons
Declining name after being acquired by Bank of America, and too many locations ... almost like you're competing with yourself.
Pros
some brokers are great to work with
Cons
- turnover in management annually
- disjointed office environment
- lack of information
Advice to Senior Management
clearer communication
Pros
The health coverage and benefits that you receive from Merrill Lynch were a big plus when working for this company..
Cons
I started working full time for Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management division straight out of college so I took an entry level position with the firm as a client associate. I acquired my Series 7 & 66 securities licenses within 2 years of me working and was never offered any opportunity for advancement within the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat all your employees equally whether they are a top producer or someone in the back office they are all just as important.
Pros
Everybody knows Merrill Lynch - nice name to have on resume
Good foot in the door if you can make good connections
Right in NYC, where everything's happening
Cons
Most interns are not compensated because they do not do the most meaningful work, and you're doing the work that no one else wants to do
