    Pros

The technology organization in Merrill Lynch is very innovative and fast moving. They do reward doers very well both in terms of money and promotions.

    Cons

This is a highly competitive and cut throat environment and you really have to be at your best at all times to survive. So if you are looking for a relaxed pace of work, this may not be the place for you.

    Advice to Management

It will be good if you can start providing an environment that can accommodate people who do a very good job but are not as ambitious and driven as some of the others. This way you will get a good balanced team.

    Pros

Obtained a level of financial literacy I was totally lacking after my liberal arts education.

    Cons

Large company with limited responsibility/quick promotion for people fresh out of college.

    Advice to Management

Start cultivating a new generation of wealth managers. There is going to be a capacity issues in about 8 years.

    Pros

It's a nice name to have on your resume. The atmosphere was friendly.

    Cons

Cold-calling all day every day was extremely mundane. This was not a learning experience. They had low-level work that needed to be done, the intern is the one to do it. They don't have time to teach you anything so any learning has to be done through observation or inquisitive conversation with FAs. Other interns on different teams got to be a lot more involved in the business and it was frustrating to be on a team that would not allow that.

    Advice to Management

Get your interns more involved. Diversify their duties so they're not left braindead by the end of the day from listening to a dial tone for 7 hours. Set a standard internship program so all interns can expect the same duties instead of winning or losing the lottery depending on their team. Make it a learning experience.

Understaffed and workflow is not managed properly.

    Pros

The analysts you work with are great.

    Cons

MD's ask for a lot of unnecessary items.
You are asked to work on things over the weekend because the MD did not plan ahead of time.
Everyone wants to quit once they start working there

    Advice to Management

There should not be more MDs/Dsd than Analysts. There should be a pyramid structure.
