I have been working at Merrill Lynch full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great $$ if you exist in affluent circles already, else expect to be fired 12 months later if you cannot bring in 4mm+ in 1st yr, 8mm more yr 2 & 16mm more yr 3. Do that and won't be fired having brought in $28mm in your 1st three yrs.

    Cons

It's like working in a pool of pihranna's. FA's competing with each other as much as competing with the outside competitive firms. Only way to survive is to bring more to the table than is given you. Then a Team 'might' adopt you and share their wealth as long as you already brought more than they have to give up. Cuthroat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too late! The industry demands that Financial Advisors are nothing more than Financial prostitutes. Each one promoting what employer says to. Sometimes employers like Merrill offer open architecture where by all mutual fund companies are eligible if they have good credentials(that is one shining star for Merrill). Many firm's (not naming names here) only do business with a select few Mutual Fund companies (opposite of Open Architecture ) which means their clients are restricted to whatever Mutual Fund relationship's employer finds is best for employer.

I worked at Merrill Lynch as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The people who work at this establishment are at the top of their fields and are a blast to work with. The culture is learning centered and everyone in the office will go out of their way to help!

    Cons

None that I can think of. The business is dependent upon new clients so the job involves a good amount of selling which could be unappealing to some.

I have been working at Merrill Lynch

    Pros

There are so many opportunities for anyone who steps foot in the door, the environment is generally friendly and there has been so much progress towards making private banking as easy as possible for our clients.

    Cons

Some of the events can take up a lot of time, the networking can be hard at first but with the right guidance it would be okay, like others have said it would be good to pair up new F/A's with the senior guys that are around.

    I worked at Merrill Lynch

    Pros

great company, great benefits, pay is accordingly, work for yourself, build and empire, make your worth. great backing from the company.

    Cons

training tends not to be enough for new brokers to succeed, better off coming aboard as a previous advisor from another company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

focus on the future advisors that will be needing more individual help to succeed and help grow the company, saw lots of new advisors not make it.
