I worked at Mesa Public Schools part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I learned new skills for example: Industrial Lamination machine, Kronos system where I kept track of the instructional aides time cards. Learned how to run the Synergy system to retrieve student data for testing labels.

    Cons

Part time hours and low pay was my main complaint. They only allowed classified employees up to 29 hours a week for a pay mostly under 10.00/hr.

I worked at Mesa Public Schools full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work is generally stable. Benefits are great for a single person.

    Cons

Layoffs have been an issue, along with work furloughs. Every department is streamlining, to the point they can't function as is expected. Benefits for additional family members is hundreds per month per individual.

Government is unable to properly fund, there's not enough public support. In general, it's falling. I quit because I had over ten years in but over ten years to go until retirement. I honestly did not see my job and possibly department existing that long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are obviously overworked with the resources they're allowed. Not enough empathy is given for that. And quit wasting money on big screen, flat screens, and other non-essentials. Yes some things to make it appear better but it sure doesn't help as people are losing jobs and distrust in your system.

I have been working at Mesa Public Schools as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

It's not bad if you want to be with your kids and you don't mind spending lots of time there.

    Cons

    Too many hours are required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The RIF is unethical. Requiring employees to volunteer 60 hours just to stay secure in their jobs is slave labor - literally.

    Pros

One of the highest paying districts in the Valley. Lots of professional development and mentoring. Laid-back work environment. Staff is usually friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Technology needs an upgrade, but that requires public funding. Need more consistent discipline for the students among staff and administration within certain schools.

I worked at Mesa Public Schools full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The school district has advantages and disadvantages. Participating in the retirement system and having the investment is a positive for anyone. The benefits are good and there are alot of days off. The time away from work allows you to have work/life balance and as an employer, they are the best if you have children and need to be away for them.

    Cons

Lower salaries compared to private industry. The percentage taken from your check to participate in the retirement system is significant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get with the times, some of the tools used seemed antiquated. There was a tendency to want to develop everything in house, and then not change for 20 years.

I worked at Mesa Public Schools full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with are fabulous!

    Cons

In any teaching position, there is always an inordinate amount of work. There were also too many programs to implement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Though professional development is a crucial part of being a teacher, perhaps a more focused look at which program(s) would be essential for each year.
