I have been working at Mesquite ISD full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Mesquite ISD takes care of their own. Salary is above average for the area. Plenty of personal days along with a lot of time off around the holidays.

    Cons

Many of the administrators have been out of the classroom and forgotten what it is like. They are unrealistic with what they ask of the teachers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the teachers more in your decisions. In some cases, they have many more years experience than you and you would benefit from hearing them before you create a new thing teachers must do.

I have been working at Mesquite ISD full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Treated wonderfully at new teacher orientation and at convocation. Pay is adequate for district and they help with masters degree.

    Cons

No support. Asked to do things against TEA policy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Admin needs to stop telling principals when they are going to be on campus if they really want to know what's going on.

I worked at Mesquite ISD full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Family atmosphere in many of the schools (not all)

    Cons

Somewhat of a "good ole' boy" network has kept the district from adjusting to the changing landscape of Mesquite, particularly the socio-economic changes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to get more focused upon results and efficiency in the upper administration.

I have been working at Mesquite ISD full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

School Districts are not going away anytime soon.
This district spends money relatively wisely compared to most in the area.
Even in 2009, and 2010 we didn't actually lay off anyone.

    Cons

Some of the IT decisions are not the best.
Some management have no idea about computers.
People in charge of the network were secretaries before this position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put people with IT experience in charge of the IT department and get better results. May cost more, but..
