I worked at Mesquite ISD full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Family atmosphere in many of the schools (not all)

    Cons

Somewhat of a "good ole' boy" network has kept the district from adjusting to the changing landscape of Mesquite, particularly the socio-economic changes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to get more focused upon results and efficiency in the upper administration.

I love the people I work with. I love the students that I teach. I also love seeing the light bulbs go off when a child finally catches on to a skill that has been difficult for him/her.

I have been working at Mesquite ISD full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

School Districts are not going away anytime soon.
This district spends money relatively wisely compared to most in the area.
Even in 2009, and 2010 we didn't actually lay off anyone.

    Cons

Some of the IT decisions are not the best.
Some management have no idea about computers.
People in charge of the network were secretaries before this position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put people with IT experience in charge of the IT department and get better results. May cost more, but..

I have been working at Mesquite ISD

    Pros

Insurance, stability, good employees, time off.

    Cons

Salary is way off market, you are either paid extremely low or extremely high

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Incentive to work there should be more than 1% raises per year. New employees should start at a mid-range, not the beginning, which is much less than what the market is.
