    Pros

Greg Anapol is doing an excellent job. The companies moving forward with new projects and new strategies.

    Cons

It's very challenging working on an older computer system. But the company is moving in the right direction and upgrading their technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to upper management would be get rid of employees that don't want to move forward and adjust to continuous improvement.

I have been working at Metal Sales Manufacturing full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Hard working employees, most are over 40 and have that old style of work ethics.

    Cons

Management & Ownership exploits employees because of age, they higer older workers who will take the abusive management style. Employees are "afraid" of losing their jobs if they don't cower to threats of termination.
I have seen Branch Managers, IT Managers, Sr. employees all leave in the past 16 mo.
Many key employees are disgusted with the management style, and are being hired by their competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Now that the economy is turning around, your going to continue to lose the "talent" that has kept you afloat.
I would write more but I have wasted enough time on MS.
To ownership, I hope that tower you live is not very tall, your ego's won't survive.

I worked at Metal Sales Manufacturing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There aren't any. If you want to be taken advantage of this is the place for you. And talk to like you are a child.

    Cons

The management plays favorites. If you don't kiss butt you won't go far. People form clicks and gang up on other employees. The overload you with work and then write you up when you can't complete it. No communication. No support. No training. People that work hard and care about the companies best interests are taken advantage of. This was one of the worst places I have ever worked. No team work. It was like a daycare people telling on you all the time when they can't even keep up with their own work. But if you like kissing butt this is the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people equally and communicate. Don't talk down to people and try training them. Oh wait instead of your employees training you, you should know the job. And do your own work so people can get theirs done. If you respect your employees maybe they will respect you. Get a clue especially when you have someone in a job that has no clue what they are doing and still continues not to know.

    Horrible place to work.

I worked at Metal Sales Manufacturing

    Pros

Pay seemed okay at first. The job is great if you want to be taken advantage of. There is absolutely nothing good about this company.

    Cons

The supervisor team is unreal, If You are not buddy buddy with them you will not move up, they only give you a raise if they like you, no matter how hard you prove yourself. I have had manipulated paychecks, shaved hours, and vacation time stolen from me. If they know we are having management come, they send the ones that will tell the management what's going on home. They expected us to work 3am -7pm and come in on the weekends for regular pay. Not to mention the lack of sleep we operated heavy equipment on, the managers embarrass you in front of other employees, they will not take you to the side and talk to you. If you get injured they try and tell you to use your insurance to pay for it so they can receive their bonus checks still.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should stop by unexpected, and see how filthy your warehouse is, I guarantee if osha were to stop by, the plant would be shut down.

I worked at Metal Sales Manufacturing full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Is was close to home. I worked with dedicated loyal people who only wanted to make the company successful and secure their futures, in spite of the lack of respect, appreciation and constant negative outlook from ownership and management.

    Cons

The unrealistic expectations and demands from ownership and upper management. They ignore state labor regulations to cheat employees out of overtime pay. There is no proper training. They demonstrate lack of appreciation, no more raises or bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop following the demands of an irrational tyrant. Learn to appreciate the hard working loyal employees and show it. Provide a better benefit package. Don't take hours from employee's PTO bank without employee authorization.

I worked at Metal Sales Manufacturing full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Decent pay in sales, lots of jobs open, great industry to get into, hard working co-workers. Great product line. Lots of locations nationwide, capabilities, and nice equipment.

    Cons

If you work here, you have a new boss every two years. A new GM comes in full of hope and told about problems at the branch that the previous manager failed to address and that is why he or she is no longer employed there. You may find out that you are part of the perceived problem so you have a short time to prove yourself before the new manager replaces you. The new GM comes in full of hope and desire to make things better until he goes to his first meeting with budget in hand. Owners expect per-recession performance and accept no excuses. The new GM gives an honest assessment backed with facts and figures, is scolded in front of his peers, and told to revise it. The next year he gets wise to this and shows a larger budget, but gets scolded because it is too high and he didn't even make his owner dictated budget the previous year. The owners inherited this business, but don't understand the market or people. When they come to visit, they just talk numbers and throw blame around. Meetings are unprofessional and GM's get scolded in front of their subordinates.Everyone is afraid to tell the truth. A negative attitude of criticism and suspicion flows downhill from the owners, through corporate, and into the branches. No matter how long you work here, someone is always looking for something you are doing wrong or some plot you have to take advantage of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Owners should seriously think about selling this company. It is just not a good fit and there are other opportunities where you can just deal with money, numbers, make a bigger profit, and have much less headache. Give up control and own some stock in the new company. Be on the board if you want, or keep a few branches that you understand well, but do something soon while it still has great value. Your employees are finding out there are better places to work and your customers are finding there are better places to buy from. This could be a great company under the right ownership, but it should be a more vertically oriented public steel company. It has outgrown the private, family ownership type company and the entrepreneur mentality that started it all is gone. If this company got new ownership, many high quality employees would return and bring customers with them.

I worked at Metal Sales Manufacturing full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The employees are terrific people working under barbarous conditions

    Cons

Ownership is at the top of the list. Arrogance is often used to describe them. At least from the nice people. They have a poor opinion or callous attitude for all the people that work hard everyday for them. Almost a slave like mentality, definitely see everyone as expendable or easily replaced. Only thing is...Metal Sales has used up it's employee job resources. They have job recruiters who will not consider posting positions because the recruiters don't want a bad reputation themselves...

Working for a company like Metal Sales means giving up self dignity. If you accept a position from Metal Sales. Keep your resume updated and continue to look elsewhere, because you will hate going to work everyday
