I have been working at Methodist Healthcare full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Senior Leadership strongly committed to the values of the organization. They are not just words on the wall. Your ideas will be heard here and if you have the initiative to be engaged, you will be recognized and rewarded. For most people here, this is not just a job.

    Cons

The healthcare environment is challenging and it will get worse before it gets better. Methodist will change with the demands of the industry and be successful, but it won't be easy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue what you are doing - keep the patient first.

I have been working at Methodist Healthcare

    Pros

Urban Teaching Hospital as well as suburban locations. So for I have worked for two nursing directors. They have been awesome. A lot of focus on training and competency. They encourage professional certifications and will reimburse testing fees. They want every RN to have a BSN and will pay for tuition. The units I have worked on have great teamwork. Most MD's are easy to work with.

    Cons

Suburban hospitals have a tendency to have low census. This results in LAC's. Teaching hospital shifts are more secure due to higher acuity and census. If you don't mind having to deal with Med students and residents this is the better hospital for experience and secured shifts. They have made many cut backs in pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start cutting CEO's pay and give it back to Nursing.

I have been working at Methodist Healthcare full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Much better scheduling for nurses. Direct supervisors and management in general seem to truly care about staff and listen to concerns. It is a wonderful culture to work in, most of the employees are pleasant to work with.

    Cons

There is a lot of "politics" to deal with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to please every single person and back the nurses, physicians, and staff more.

Plenty of OT, but this is changing due to budget deficit. Will resume back to normal operation within a year.

    Beautiful Facility
    Modern

    Cons

    Too business (only) focus
Promote more a feeling of job security

    LeBonheur/Methodist Merger

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When important events occur, take the time to individually speak with all of those involved before making big decisions affecting others lives, livelihoods and that of their family. Don´t portray a false grievance system or a system that doesn´t fully inform. Don´t pretend that Doctors are always correct. Keep it REAL and realistic in regard to humans giving quality care/time. Don´t create an environment of paranoia where people wonder if they will have a workplace tomorrow. Don´t push people to make donations to charities or to donate to help. Even when people are working, some may be experiencing financial hardship and not donating should never be frowned upon. You never know the circumstances of people who are suffering. Don´t make donating a forced issue.
