Great first job. Lots and lots of skills to be acquired.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsLoads of learning and training opportunities. Overtime is sometimes available. Management is very clear in their expectations and has reasonable goals. Very high job security.

ConsCompensation is generally (for non-union workers) lower than the private sector but is still relatively comparable. Promotions are few and far between. Can become boring, the office is not very lively.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be nice to get to know management a little better. Maybe have a department lunch every other week or so? Please end some of the archaic work policies you have in place.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Design Engineer Intern

ProsGood pay and great people. Very flexible with school while doing internship. Managers will guide you along the way.

ConsThey have a great internship program but nothing for entry level. If you get an internship you most likely will have to look elsewhere for a starting career.

    Very poor HR Department

Compensation Analyst (Current Employee) Saint Paul, MN

ProsGood Paid Time Off plan; some nice perks like free bus/light rail pass; emphasis on allowing employees time off when necessary

ConsHR leadership has had a lot of turnover with changes to the HR Director, a couple of HR Managers, and many other people actively looking for another opportunity. Some managers within the HR department are unscrupulous, play favorites and enjoy demoralizing their workers; if youa re looking for a place to be an HR business partner, this is not the company for you. All HR decisions have to be run through Finance, there is no discretion or authority that HR possesses

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow HR to be a business partner

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Great place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat benefits and a place to be challenged. Excellent training opportunities and chances to expand horizons. I love my boss and this place

Consputting up with politicians who have no idea what you do. Environment is not conducive to do your best because the politicians control your life

Advice to Senior Managementfind a source of independent funding so that it is not dependent on the state legislature yahoos. That is the biggest challenge.
