I have been working at Metropolitan Market

    Pros

great benefits, great culture, a growing company that promotes from within and really takes care of its team members.

    Cons

Some find the dress code and all the rules a bit stifling. The union makes it difficult to fire bad employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More positive feedback and incentives for achieving sales or inventory goals. Spend more time explaining what you want to see rather than what you don't want to see.

Worked as a courtesy clerk, bagging groceries, helping customers out to their cars, and cleaning.

I worked at Metropolitan Market part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fairly relaxed management. Good food, plenty of samples around the store. Customers mostly friendly white people. Bagging groceries can actually be fun if you get into it. You get to outside when helping customers.

    Cons

Minimum wage. Customers mostly snobby white people. Smelly garbage machine out back. Often boredom-inducing. Refused to hire me back for winter season. Sometimes it's raining and customers still need help, and they rarely tip (not that they're allowed to).

I have been working at Metropolitan Market

    Pros

Inspired to create programs, never micro managed. Owner likes to discuss options and possibilities and leaves you to make the final decision. He truely coaches and mentors and allows us to make the final choice, even if our choice does not work. He beleives that you can learn more from failing then hitting home runs very time. So you become a better risk taker and learn to look a project from all angles. I've gown so much and have learned so much working here.

    Cons

Would love to have more access to owner, but there's just to many of us.

I have been working at Metropolitan Market

    Pros

    -(Very) High Quality Product
-Excellent Union Benefits and Backing (You'll need it!)
    -Strong Community Involvement

    Cons

    -Rampant Favoritism
    -Total Lack of Communication
    -Discrimination
    -High School Politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Uphold the SAME standards for all employees. Everyone (even management) should be held to the same standards, policies, etc. -All the time. (Not just when you need to fire someone...)
