    Pros

Flexible employer with a large global footprint that allows one to see and do interesting things. In a global role opportunity to travel and be part of global teams. Fairly good benefits.

    Cons

Not the best salary level and a somewhat old working environment. Although a lot of renewal in management has happened there's still quite an old management style in the company.

    Advice to Management

Re-invent the working environment and don't be afraid to hire young people. Management style should also cater for the younger crowd.

    Pros

diverse working environment, a good opportunity to learn about the mining and construction industry. A true multicultural experience in every office.

    Cons

3 reorganization since 2008 resulting in thousands of layoffs. Management is now centered on keeping their jobs or networking to find new ones rather than making a success of the job at hand. The overall work environment is fearful and way too stressful.

    Pros

You will make lots of friends. Company has relatively flexible work environment.

    Cons

Lack of direction from upper management. Getting decisions is hard. High baby-boomer to young worker ratio. Aging work force is very reluctant to any change, to new ideas and refuses to pass on its knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Inefficient company overall. Management should concentrate on promoting individuals with leadership and communication skills instead of seniority.

    Pros

You much left to your own. Boss is located in another state which is a good thing. If the contracted place where you work at doesn't follow you closely then you can make your own hours. Paid lunch, 8 hour work day.

    Cons

They promise you everything but the job is totally different. The work is mostly baby-sitting. Most places are dirty and not great working conditions.

    Advice to Management

    Get pro active

Vertical Movement is good within company, but communiation between divisions is horrible. Now with the split off, things are getting better.

    Cons

Company is not run well, most programs are far behind their counter parts.

    I worked at Metso

    Pros

Lots of lateral freedom in decision-making; technically highly competent organization; pursues constant changes and new business arenas; seeks to provide real customer solutions; very customer-focused; company offers great benefits; generally open, relaxed working atmosphere

    Cons

Information flow and exchange is often frustrating; personal efforts and accomplishments go generally unnoticed ("extra-mile" is kind of expected); change initiatives are often poorly communicated and executed on the business unit level; limited room for professional growth once a certain level has been attained; remuneration seems below industry standards

    Advice to Management

Communicate more effectively with all levels of employees. Provide competent leadership through change processes to help everyone understand your intentions and targets. Further, management ought to live up to its claim that Metso's employees are its most important asset.
