I worked at Miami Dade College part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Working here was great because I was always engaged with the students and tutoring them in whatever STEM subject they needed. Company values are great and they truly do care about their employees. They did offer raises every 6 months as well as a retirement plan. Very flexible when it came to your scheduling.

    Cons

Sometimes, the work place got very crowded which made it sometimes difficult to teach effectively.
    No other cons.

    Pros

Promotes from within and you can move horizontally career wise with nearly limitless variance in jobs.

    Cons

Salary below the market; The Chief Financial Officer is using the overall scarcity of jobs to his/her advantage and hold wages down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All employees should have an introduction with human resources once every three months

I worked at Miami Dade College part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I wasn't flipping burgers. It was good for the first year I worked....I got interesting tasks on many occasions working with staff for events.

    Cons

It was once a great job worthy of 5 stars until expectations and responsibilities became intolerable. The position is disrespected by faculty, staff and, students. Working hours reduced to make room for a management position. Lack of identification.Pay is barely enough to justify gas or public transport if you work 15 hours a week or less. Retirement "benefits" is not good for students, money goes in, disappears and, you cant opt out. No advancement possible unless you know people or have a BA or greater.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Require all professors to check their in-boxes weekly.Empower the front desk to deny service if students are unreasonable, employees should not be at the mercy of students baseless complaints. Enable opting out of retirement. Provide Identification to ALL staff members, would reduce wasted man hours when making deliveries to other departments.

    Pros

Extremely rewarding to have been part of the ACCESS team. Since the office is small and there are only about 15 staff members, you get to know each other very well. Even after leaving the ACCESS Department, I still visit because of how much I care about the staff.

    Cons

    Low wage, lack of mobility.

    Pros

I liked working there because you learn a lot, the job is very hands on. You have great people working there, a great place to work.

    Cons

Too many politics involved, however you can have a chance to grow within. The benefits not as good as they used to but better than working for a private institution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of all management they think they own the college not...Dr. Padron is the best the rest are out of touch with reality.
