I have been working at Miami-Dade Police Department full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Progressive, professional work environment with good leadership
Cons – Tight economy. Some of the benefits for future employees may change. Part of the Florida State Retirement System.... Future benefits may change
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to develop personnel with potential, focus on succession planning
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Miami-Dade Police Department
Pros – Decent pay
Good benefits including insurance and tuition reimbursement
Generous training, both in-house (Training Bureau) and out (federal training like FBI and equipment manufacturer's courses)
Respect for work-life balance makes it easy to get time off when needed
Very stable place to work, no layoffs
Cons – You get treated the same whether you go the extra mile or do the minimum
Some employees do literally nothing and management seems to not care
Promotions seem like they're decided in advance and interviews are done for show
No crosstraining or upward mobility--middle management is all relatively new to the position so it will be a long time before there are any management openings
Advice to Senior Management – We've got great equipment, make more use of the knowledge held by the people who work here.

I worked at Miami-Dade Police Department
Pros – Exciting job, helping the public is rewarding.
Cons – Old boys club alive and well.
Advice to Senior Management – Appreciate the smart, dedicated officers, instead of promoting your pals. Would make for an excellent department. Give kudos to those who deserve it, not those 'in the know."
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
