    Advice to Management

    Be honest with your employees. Don't tell them you'll be cross training them and proceed not to. Train your employees better. Have SOPs and flipguides more available to associates. One day of cashier training on the current system simply does not work well enough for everyone. Keep a manager at the front end at all times, that makes overrides much easier and keeps lines from backing up. Appreciate what your employees do and recognize their efforts.

    nice discounts if you want them

    Cons

    In just under a year and a half, the store I work in has lost FOUR managers to leaves of absence due to the stress of the job. None returned from their LOA's. That alone says how horrible it is to be a manager. The benefits are a joke. Raises and bonuses are insulting.

    Pros

    Co-workers are nice and enjoyable to be around with. Easy job, not very hard at all. Schedule is flexible and are pretty nice about time-off.

    Cons

    Email collection is annoying, mostly every customer has already signed up for emails and some don't even want to give theirs out. Low pay and raise. Signs around the store confuse customers about which times are on sale and that causes frustration and irritability for the customers. Not very busy during the summer so once you get done with something you pretty much have to find something else to do.

    Advice to Management

    Everything is not always about emails.

    Pros

    Fun environment to work in for a while with many coworkers from various backgrounds. Business is ever changing as well.

    Cons

    Told there is lots of availability for growth, but in reality only certain people are liked and moved around the company

    Pros

    Love arts and crafts. You can move up the ladder fairly quickly if you do your job well because of extreme turnover. Having an hour for lunch was very nice.

    Cons

    Terrible management, do not care about employees, not flexible with part-time employees schedules, expect too much from new hires, not willing to teach

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees like people instead of just hired hands. You will get a lot more accomplished. Make sure you teach new hires what they are supposed to do instead of just expecting them to know.

    Pros

    the employee discount; nice co-workers

    Cons

    They stress "family", but create jobs where the shifts begin at 3 a.m. or 5 a.m., also "overnights". Management lies a lot.

    Advice to Management

    Talk to your employees before assuming that they are wrong when they receive a customer complaint. Treat them like they are an asset to the company. Pay them better.

    I worked at Michaels Stores (More than a year)

    Pros

    I was doing something I loved to do. Teach others the wonderful world of jewelry making. Inspiring and bringing out creativity.

    Cons

    Cashiers had no idea where the binder with class schedules was. It was never put back in the same place. Cashiers had no training on giving customers information about classes should they have brought up jewelry products to purchase.

    Advice to Management

    Enforce training for all employees on classes available at location. Most importantly take responsibility for your employees.
