Mental challenge may depend on mental capacity

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Newark, CA

ProsThe pay is probably more than fair as most employees average at least one raise per year and often more than one even in tough economic times. In addition to raises all full-time employees are eligible for incentives and receive benefits. Some job duties while somewhat repetitive are actually interesting if properly approached and executed. Even entry level employees have the chance to speak with high level IT, Sales and Marketing executives in information intensive, sophisticated industries like hi tech, retail and financial services. It's like getting a graduate degree while being paid to go to school. There is a lot of interaction with management but any "public" criticism is presented in a joking fashion and is usually spread equally among those listening. Of course, there's a chance that on occasion some people don't get the joke. On the other hand public praise is much more frequent and serious. Employee turnover is very low and while the majority of employees are young i.e. 20's and 30's most have been with the company over 3 years with some older employees having been with the company over 20 years! Maybe the best benefit for employees is that the majority of management jobs are filled from within the company and there is a pretty constant demand. There are also current management level people in their early and mid 20's because of this policy.

ConsThere is fairly constant need for new entry level people and sometimes that results in less than optimum hires. Because of the reluctance of management to terminate without cause and the relative comfort level of the workplace environment some less than optimum people stay on for too long.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet tougher with the interview and hiring process and don't be so patient with poor performers or those who's lack of perspective or ambition gets in the way of their performance and advancement.

A mental challenge to work for

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Newark, CA

ProsThe pay is fair and the job duties are simple, yet repetitive. Working environment with coworkers is very open & laid back. Pay increases are possible if you work in the call center. You have daily access to the owner & his door is always open to talk if need be (if it's a good day). The owner often comes to talk to the call center about the progress of the company so we feel accomplished with what our daily duties amount to.

ConsUpon interviewing, know that management is incredibly selective considering the size of the company and extreme sales skills & artistic convincing would help to be hired. Favoritism, belittling comments, public call outs, public criticism, and constant pressure with an unsatisfied response to the work you complete is what you should expect from management & the owner. Additionally, you should expect to work full time with no benefits alongside others who work the same hours but get benefits (even after several years).

Advice to Senior ManagementThe definition of insanity is to do the same thing but expect different results. Repetitive tasks result in bored & unmotivated employees, yet, incentivising work by scare tactics only result in immediate responses but long term bitterness. My advise to management is to wholeheartedly appreciate each employee for what they do for the company and to express that appreciation. If funds permit bonus's or gifts are great; but even a private compliment or verbal praise goes farther than any smart comment, snare, or public challenge.

Good Place to Learn, Grow & Connect

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThis is a great place to work. The company has an excellent reputation and a long list of big name clients who provide great references. The majority of employees are long term and have great attitudes. There no layoffs. The business to business marketing solution is very successful, continously updated and always ahead of the game.

ConsWorkplace sometimes too informal. Confidentiality sometimes too strict.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease the number of team meetings and off site events.
