    Pros

I came from a very conservative company and was amazed at the difference between MicroEdge and the former employer. You have a flexible work schedule and can often work from home. Benefits start on day one, they offer a volunteer for vacation benefit. The company is very employee focused with initiatives to engage the employee in activities at and outside of work.

    Cons

It's a growing company, so there are areas they are still tweaking. For an established working professional not fresh out of college, there may be a bit of a generation gap.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Promote employee involvement and making it a great place to come to everyday.

    Pros

    - Stable work hours and low stress. - 30 year old software company that has evolved to use modern development methodologies. - Current parent company is willing to invest money and headcount into the company

    Cons

Career growth can be hampered depending on which product you're working on.

I have been working at MicroEdge full-time

    Pros

very good work-life balance many good developers to learn from strong market position for most of the products creating good job stability for many solid HR department who are approachable and work hard to enhance employee morale

    Cons

dangerous and confusing technology direction over the last year or so productivity suffering from lots of meetings fear of speaking up about these problems - agree with a post about a destructive pair of people (including an executive) as part of the R&D individual contributor group it used to be much higher profile in the company, now feels pretty low-profile

    Advice to Management

Do more employee surveys to gauge how things are going to help uncover serious problems before they start affecting the company Be thoughtful about the balance between people who are dedicated to telling people to do things (and how to do things) versus people actually doing things - the balance is way off and out of whack

    Pros

Very smart people on board, most were very kind and helpful You'll usually end up on a good team with good support. An easy place to make friends. Most departments have a good work/life balance You can tell that HR tries very hard to make the environment and culture positive.

    Cons

The benefits are very poor for a (subsidiary of a) publicly traded company. There are one or two senior people (one an executive) there who are incredibly disruptive to team building and are in every meeting. And there are a lot of meetings. It seems minor until you see just how destructive their behavior is - can throw whole departments into chaos. Poor location for offices in NYC. Poor advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the destructive people; get better insurance and benefits.

I have been working at MicroEdge full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great working environment, positive people. No micro-managers and people are all striving for the same goal. Very flexible working hours and ability to work from home is a huge plus. Good meritocracy - the smart ideas that will positively affect the organization will win out.

    Cons

Because its a small market the revenue isn't quite there for maximum earning potential for what you do. The organization can feel disparate at times - many people working remotely and not a lot of cross departmental collaboration. Could use more opportunities to foster employee interaction.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! Keep listening to your teams and building on the strong growth in the past few years.

I have been working at MicroEdge full-time

    Pros

There is a great culture at MicroEdge! They really try to bring employees from all the departments and offices together for fun activities. Small company with high visibility to senior team members. The CEO,& CFO have a true open door policy. Paid time off to volunteer is also nice.

    Cons

Salary is on the lower end for a software company and there is no 401k match. Doesn't offer a lot of room for growth in many of the smaller departments.

    Pros

Real people, excellent training, very collaborative and supportive culture. Invests in training and advancing employees.

    Cons

Need to rely on a lot of entry level staff. Broad product knowledge required and very process-focused responsibilities with lean staff. No 401K match.

    Advice to Management

    Add 401K match to benefits,

I have been working at MicroEdge full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits package, PTO, and lots of paid training. Can carry over PTO from year to year.

    Cons

Does not match 401k and no sick days. Only negative about PTO is that is must be accrued throughout the year.

    Advice to Management

More work day activities for people to participate in!

    MicroEdge Response

    Apr 20, 2015 – Director of HR & Recruiting

What a difference a year makes - we have a 401k match, and our PTO doesn't work in exactly the same way - no accrual. I bet you're loving the changes brought by our acquisition by Blackbaud! Happy to ... More
