It's been a good small company to work for

Business Development (Former Employee) Herndon, VA

ProsFamily run, covers all Healthcare for employees

ConsGrowing through lessons learned, not outside experience

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to compliment the transactional experience with a more strategic and forward thinking approach. Real Relationship building for longer term and bigger deal scenarios need to be expanded.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Talent is less important than tenure ...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe benefits are great, and the environment is laid back. The company promotes a 'team' theme that is catchy for new comers.

ConsA culture of mediocre old boy network is setting in at the cost of talent and innovation. You have a small cadre in middle management promoted within the ranks based solely on their tenure as opposed to competence.

Advice to Senior ManagementRewarding tenure is not a growth strategy, you need talented and innovative employees who are prepared to try new ideas. There has to be a better way to reward loyal employees that promoting them to positions they are not prepared to handle.

    Account Executive's Be Careful

Account Executive (Former Employee) Herndon, VA

ProsSeems very friendly and supportive when first arriving. If part of the team of which the original owners will decide to add you into their following, then you might be successful.

ConsI've seen many account executives get ready to close big deals which they worked on for 12-18 months and right before closing they were laid off. Millions of dollars of contracts were then scooped up by the team lead who is a friend of the family. This is a friends and family kind of business, so don't think that it won't happen, the question is "when it will happen" that they will let you go for their own desire to keep the revenue to themselves.

Advice to Senior ManagementSuggestions to management won't change because these folks have been high-school friends and they won't change.

MicroPact is a great place to work, I feel very lucky to be here

    Director (Current Employee) Herndon, VA

ProsThe company was founded is run by CEO Kris Collo and CTO Mike Cerniglia. Both are young, bright, rational, generous and fair. The company pays 100% of premiums for an excellent healthcare plan -- that alone is worth at least an extra $10K in salary. The work environment is casual, friendly and fun. Catered breakfast is provided every Thursday. All employees are issued iPads as standard equipment. The company is in the process of building out an aggressive telework program, and it's easy to work from home whenever convenient. The company provides generous gifts and bonuses at the end of the year.

ConsThe company added more than 50 employees in 2012. This has left the headquarters a little overcrowded. There are a very limited number of offices. The open floor plan of the office can make for a noisy work environment with limited personal space. There are few meeting rooms, which although occasionally inconvenient tends to discourage unnecessary meetings.

Advice to Senior ManagementKris & Mike - Never change. You've gotten where you are by being genuine, down-to-earth, and very generous. At times you seem slightly out-of-step with the rest of corporate America... stay that way, it's what makes you great.

    Unprofessional -

    Sales (Current Employee) Herndon, VA

ProsProfessional services group and HR are good to work with.

ConsThey use "family" environment a lot but its not. CEO and senior management monitor your office activities(who you talk to, when you come to office/leave, internet and corporate email). Although they have grown in number of employees, they behave like a tiny company. SVP and Director of Sales control everything. Account exec have no real authority or control.

Whatever they say about flexible environment during interview process is not correct. Also do not believe what Sales management says potential for commissions.

    Thoughts from an AE.

Applications Engineer (Current Employee) Herndon, VA

ProsFull benefits package. Work consists primary of developing on their software platform that is easy to use and versatile. Primary languages used is (in the order of least used to heaviest used) Velocity, Java, Javascript, and SQL.

ConsOffice politics. Communication between employees minimal. A fast growing company that may or may not be able to support the expansion due to a loose management hierarchy.

    Advice to Senior ManagementNo advice.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
