I worked at MicroStrategy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good bi product , lots of experience, teams, size, CEO is still visionary

    Cons

Upper Management, shifts in strategies, too focused on stock price performance (gimmicks in sales), too much legacy code (product needs big haul for next generation analytics)

    Advice to Management

CEO is still a visionary but need less seismic shifts or better planned, should have kept talent from leaving at the mid and lower level cause that would have been mutual investment.

    Pros

Fake stock price which can be considered as the only pro for Wall Street, who only care about short term stock performance.

    Cons

Compared with last Q2, Wall Street is happy with higher net profit. However, the fact is revenue decreased while competitors' market share is growing. The increase of net profit comes from more than 1700 employees leaving, due to hopeless. Wall Street knows nothing about real industry, fake valuation model is the only thing they interested in. That kind of increase like a starved person cut his own meat. That man will die soon! Run asap!

    Advice to Management

Compared with Alarm, which was one part of Microstrategy, do you really believe you know management? Idiot!

    I worked at MicroStrategy full-time

    Pros

none anymore. used to be a great company.

    Cons

they have lost about 1000 employees over the past 9 months, the majority of which left on their own because of how bad the environment has become.

    Advice to Management

the only thing that will save the company is getting rid of the CEO (rumor is, he's getting ready to sell the company, so perhaps this will happen)

    Pros

-Workout classes -Gym with showers -Concert tickets -iPads and Macbooks <3

    Cons

One year ago, this was the best job I'd ever had. Now it is the worst job I've ever had. I've seen a lot of bright talented outside people brought in to lead, only to be told "no" constantly. The only successful "leaders" here today are yes-men. That definitely wasn't true three years ago, but it totally is true now. Anyone based at headquarters who is still here is doing it because of one of three reasons: 1- they're not competitive candidates for a job elsewhere 2- they got promotions from everyone else quitting 3- they have little kids and are able to leave work early because managers don't care anymore The people left are friendly people, but this place is not where you want to be right now. Maybe in a few years it will be okay again.

    Advice to Management

If you don't pay your employees more, anyone who isn't here for a visa sponsorship will probably be job-hunting. Learn to trust and delegate to the vice presidents you bring in.

I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Simply put, there's no other enterprise platform combining three mega-trends in the industry across Analytics, Mobility and Security. After a very bumpy ride, stability is returning to the company and everyone's focused on selling and delivering great value. Deeper usage of internal tools like SFDC, Merit, Rally is a good thing..they're used industry-wide. Oh, and before I forget - this is not a paid review and no one from HR asked me to write it :) There are happy employees too at this company who need to be heard on Glassdoor.

    Cons

Company will need to do more to regain employee morale from last round of layoffs and regain employee trust.

    Advice to Management

Same as what other reviews say - focus on employees and customers. The rest will take care of itself.

Remove the one common denominator after years of problems and loss of market share.

Best Enterprise BI Product - Worst Company Culture w/CEO Ruining Any Chance of Success

    Pros

Great enterprise product! At least 12 months ago and when finally the overdue next release comes out it should help catch up to other BI vendors who have stormed ahead improving their Analytics while MSTR derailed into a new Security focused path last year

    Cons

Not much to add to other posts - way too many excellent experienced people in all areas forced out or fed up and left. Since CEO took an interest in day-to-day activities there are one after the other CEO/Exec operations decisions that put up roadblocks for hard working teams to achieve success. Add to that a new 2015 Comp plan that helps the CEO find every nuance possible to NOT PAY the sales force....

    Advice to Management

Do whatever it takes to stop the bleeding of talent and get the company and Analytics product back on track. Security is a cool offering with lost of potential - just don't push it at the expense of the BI platform

I have been working at MicroStrategy (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong Business Intelligence platform, single product base not a collection of acquired tools.

    Cons

No global strategy or vision. Company is at the mercy of the whims and ego of the CEO and Founder. Lack of experience at the top and all the way through the company, especially after a lot of long time employees have left. All decisions made at the top with little consideration on how they should be implemented in the field. New products are announced with no go to market strategy. Most new products over the past 2 years were outside the core BI and had no pricing, sales plan, tools, targets or field enablement. Only guidance was to ring your customer and talk to them about product XYZ. All of these expect for Usher were pulled within 18 months.

    Advice to Management

Focus on BI. Float Usher off as a separate company. Bring in someone with experience who can grow a business to $1B and beyond.

There are few... was a good product, was recognized, was interesting... 10 years ago. They generally pay well... but it's like getting "hazard pay"

    Cons

no cohesion among management team... CEO is running the company into the ground, using his 25 year old playbook. No morale No perks No future vision..

    Advice to Management

    give up

Culture is self-managing similar to what Zappos is trying to do although it hasn't been explicitly articulated.

    Pros

Continuous Learning. Exciting new v10 product. Smart colleagues. Some cool engagements.

    Cons

A disconnect with almost everybody. High turnover. Strategy is still unclear whether it's an Accenture model or McKinsey model.

    Advice to Management

Recent turnovers are putting a damper morale
