Former Employee - R&D Engineer in Tustin, CA

    I worked at MicroVention full-time

    Pros

The people were very good to work with and the benefits were excellent. The products were interesting to work on and as a young engineer I learned a lot in a short period of time.

    Cons

Although there were always new projects to work on, the R&D resources were limited and shared with other areas. Things did not happen as fast as they should have for this reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More exposure / rotational programs available to the engineers, as the day to day can become tiring.

I worked at MicroVention as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    good benefits, scholarship for student

    Cons

The worst department to work for is assembly- it is the mess
What to expect if you work for assembly department:
1.Management favoritism and some are very unprofessional
2.Leaders are also play favorites and acknowledge the untalented employees. Employees have no voice, if leaders and supervisors hate you, you are a goner.
3.Your standing in company depends on who you know ( the higher up person you know the better your position will be secured)
4.Bottom line, bad culture and no good value. I found myself a better company to work with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management, management, management, the problem is YOU. You are creating the mess.
Management need to be fair, stop favoritism and learn to keep the talented. The way the management right now, all the talented will be gone. If management is choosing people based on favoritism and not their ability, you are a joke. Company's outlook is not very bright at this state. Remember, the technology and new design alone will not save you. A good culture is what defines healthy growing company
If Microvention is aiming to be big, management need to set aside personal opinions, truly recognize the talented.
p.s Re evaluate your the leaders and pickup leads. They are not very helpful and 99% are unprofessional and unskilled who like to gossip instead working.

    Pros

Rapidly growing . MicroVention has a great culture, people are great to work with. The company really respects their employees.

    Cons

MicroVention is so rapidly growing that they have a few growing pains but nothing that cannot be improved upon. They are hiring more experience management to make a lot of great changes

I have been working at MicroVention full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good hours and flexibility, decent benefits. Company tries to provide well for it's employees

    Cons

Company needs to take a breath and get in top of what they currently have. Continual growth and expansion is not good if what you already have isn't being properly managed. ERP system is a dinosaur with serious technical problems. Processes and procedures are barely in existence in practice, no one really seems to know what is the right way to get things done. Understaffed and way underpaid for the workload and in comparison to job market rates. Honestly, get your work experience and get out unless management seriously invests in properly qualified and trained employees. Benefits as stated is pro but you basically pay for those benefits with lower pay. This was actually what was said to me when I questioned the offer they gave me for the job. Took significant pay cut when converted from a temp employee to a staff employee. Regretting it now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pause in the growth to get a true handle on business operations you currently have, and invest more in staffing qualified people. Moving a low level employee up to new position only works if the person actually has the skills for the job. Time with the company doesn't mean a person has the required skills. And employees are frustrated and bitter over being underpaid, overworked, and just putting out fires all day everyday.

    I worked at MicroVention

    Pros

Good hours, nice people, small company culture. The product is challenging to manufacture yet cutting edge. Microvention doesn't mess around when it comes to being the best in Neurotechnology! I am a firm believer in the quality of the product.

    Cons

Paperwork technology stuck in the 80's , must wear many hats, very young departments and managers (some are inexperienced and lack the technical background). Many managers are new. Sub par production supervisors/leads resulting in alot of firefighting. Very fast paced and very aggressive project schedules means more chances for mistakes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's a must to have managers with at least 6+ years of experience leading a medical device team and have to be technical and hands-on. Any less and they will not be successful. Subordinates will get lost, frustrated, and quit.
