I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employee involvement in the company goals is a primary focus of this company. Keeping open lines of communication throughout the chain of employees supports everyone aiming at these common goals. The respect given to employees here is amazing. The ability to grow into richer work responsibilities is part of the culture. You can grow into any type of roll you put your mind to achieving.

    Cons

It takes a certain type of individual to work at Microchip. You need to buy into the shared exposure of the company in regards to your individual success. The flip side of this team player approach is that when the company does well, the success and benefits are shared with everyone.

    Advice to Management

Keep working to absorb new employees acquired through acquisitions into the Microchip culture as fast as possible. This team approach to growing the company through shared goals and the focus on the future of the company is a very desirable feature of working here.

I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time

    Pros

Microchip continues to grow both in size and in profitability. The company is financially well run and stable. The product portfolio grows with each acquisition.

    Cons

Technology-wise the company lags and is uninspiring. While dividends continue to grow, the compensation package has stagnated and is rapidly falling behind.

    Advice to Management

I've enjoyed the product growth through acquisition as our internal technology could never produce the same results. Try to maintain some of what made the acquired companies exciting.

    Pros

    Work life balance...on site clinic...

    Cons

Everything about Microchip is about lining someone else's pocket. It's the worst salary and benefits program I've ever encountered. Base pay is 30-40% off the industry. As for the purported "Culture"... it's fake. It's a mindset that management wants you to buy into hoping you'll ignore everything else...especially your paycheck. Regardless of how the Company is doing, there's always a disaster looming so your bonus for the record quarter has to be cut. Make no mistake...the top five in this company rule with an iron fist.

    Advice to Management

Drop the Microchip Culture schtick. It's fake and you know it...and we know it. Professionals work for pay.

I worked at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Relative job safety. Work life balance - towards life.

    Cons

If you are aquired by MCHP you either run or wait for the severance package (which is below average anyway). No internal competition, which means no progress at all. Company is not run by management but by a close circle of 5 people (no names here). Mediocre people get positions and pay above their abilities which leads them to stay and post overly positive reviews. This is no inside news, all of that can be found in literature.

    Advice to Management

You could double income figures by listening to your customers. Or your employees.

I worked at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

On site health clinic for employee and spouse Family Day to bring your family members to see where you work Occasionally a great quarterly bonus

    Cons

Hiring 'kids' who don't want to actually work at their job, they would much rather sit around and talk. Supervisors who are incompetent and are more concerned with how much work is being moved, but don't want to do anything about the 'kids' who want to sit around talking. Leads who don't do anything but sit around with the 'kids' and talk.

    Advice to Management

You don't listen so there is not a point in giving advice. Your good people are leaving!! Open your eyes and stop patting the backs of the ones who come to work for social hour.

    Pros

Laid back work environment. Pretty good ESPP . 401k matching. I have a good supervisor, and I like his boss too.

    Cons

They buy a lot of companies and cut a lot of good people. They say that they value their employees, well not enough to give good severance packages. Their severance is terrible, the worst I've ever seen, based on the 4 companies I've worked at. (No, I've never been cut, but I know a lot of people who have). They don't have Kaiser either, which is a first, for the companies I've worked at in the Bay Area.

    Advice to Management

Put your money where your basic beliefs are, and greatly improve the severance you give to the employees that you RIF.
