Pros
Provides a steady paycheck. Clean facilities.
Cons
No future within IS department unless your connected, as some other have said a good ol' boy company. Management is just grabbing as many bonuses as they can before they finally cripple the company and it goes under. Tools and Training required for job function not generally provided allowing management to blam the worker
Advice to Senior Management
Save time... close he company and split and funds between management... Why slowly steal it all when ou can just take it.
Pros
They paid for my education. They gave me promotional opportunities and the ability to continue to be involved in new things.
Cons
I think that in many cases, your job satisfaction is based on the area you work in and your boss.
Pros
If you need a paycheck and get a job here - you will get paid.
Cons
Sr. Management lacks strong leadership & vision - just chases not going bankrupt. Accepts mediocracy. The 'senior' managers decide how things get done then dictate to the rest of the company what will be done and how it will be achieved. There is little ability to influence or change directions - even when it makes sense to do so. Project managers are measured on meeting timelines, not results. Because the majority of the Executives and Senior managers have been there for years, and have no intent on leaving - this will not change.
Advice to Senior Management
Heirarchy and dictorial approach is non-competitive, kills drive of employees that have new ideas that could bring huge positive changes. Listening to those that are actually doing the work would lend itself to some big wins. Staying in Boise as headquarters limits the diversity of the workforce - so employees all think the same (same schools, same neighborhoods, same churches) so new ideas are rare. Great talent cannot be recurited because they don't want to work in Boise...particulary for a compay that lacks career growth. Stock plans for employees (not just executive level) would do a lot for employees to feel valued and care about how things get done.
Pros
Talented and hard-working team members - the work is fast-paced but good if you like working in that type of environment - compensation is reasonable for the area (but still below national averages)
Cons
Plain and simple - poor management! Environment has become one of CYA, and recognition has been diminished to "be happy you have a job". Advancement is related to more of who you know than with what you know or how you perform.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to steer the ship. You have many loyal, hard-working employees that want to see the company succeed. However these same employees often feel neglected and uninformed. I know that a number of these valuable people would jump ship if they could.
Pros
Leading edge technology, good work/life balance, the managers I interact with daily appear to be technically sharp and with good "people skills".
Cons
HIGHLY competitive industry. One misstep, and you're history as a company. Can be hard to deal the boom-or-bust cycles of the industry. At times, the focus on cost controls can be taken to what to me appears to be absurd lengths.
Pros
The technology changes so frequently that there are always new projects to participate in. Everyday can be very different, which creates a very exciting work environement. People with good problem solving skills will not get bored in an engineering position. The pay is very good, especially considering the cost of living in Boise is fairly low. The benefits are pretty decent. Boise is an amazing place to live.
Cons
Poor balance between work and life. Way too much micromanaging. No clear direction of career path. Expectations are not clear. Poor quality and frequency of performance review. They give you way too much time off, but I have the impression that actually taking your time off is frowned upon. Managers do not fully support or appreciate their employee's input. "Face time" or the time actually spent in the building seems valued more than actual solid productivity.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire competant people and allow them to do their job and make important decisions, rather than intervening in everything. Understand that it is possible to be decicated and a valuable employee without sacrificing your personal life. Understand that happy employees are more productive.
Pros
good work. Never repeating work. Opportunity for learning a lot about semiconductor memories. Memory operation, reliabity, CMOS reliability. TCAD work related to process development.
Cons
average salary, heavy work load.
Pros
I liked working with the people there, friendly atmosphere, good benefits, gained a lot of experience
Cons
for such a large company it was hard to move around. Always hiring freezes every time there were market problems. In the 90's it was expanding like crazy with lots of opportunities. After 2001, it changed, and it was harder to get advancement
Advice to Senior Management
cross train your employees more and encourage people to move around, not get locked in or pigeon holed. In the long run it benefits the employee and the company.
Pros
It is a great place to work. The company offers opportunity for employees to grow up. the company also offers competitive benefits.
Cons
the main work in Micro technology is quality control, including six sigma. the job continous h hourglasses at the same time improvement
Advice to Senior Management
most elegant answer is the quickest. Start both hourglasses simultaneously. At the end of 7 minutes, flip over the 7-minute hourglass. In another 4 minutes, the 11 minute hourglass will be empty and 4 minutes will have elapsed from the 7-minute-ho
Pros
They pay well and give good opportunities to learn and grow within the company.
Cons
Timing schedules are tight and expectations are very high.
Advice to Senior Management
Managment should relax the work environment and provide some moderate level of flexibility for employee. It is a great company to work for.
