Pros – First note my experience here comes from test engineering on the Systems Integration side of things which is separated from the main corporate building complex. Things may be better or worse in other areas of the company.
1.) The people I work with are friendly albeit rather reserved so it can make things rather dull. However, I have not experienced much of the "Good ol' boys" complex in the area I work in although I'm sure it exists; it is a fairly large company.
2.) Where I work you are allowed to work independently and make decisions without a lot of management hassle or red tape.
3.) Very generous amount of vacation time that you can use as long as you use it reasonably (not taking 3 consecutive weeks off)
4.) You will not get rich working here (unless maybe if you are an executive) but the pay isn't unreasonable given the Boise area.
5.) Where I work it is actually a fairly laid back atmosphere although you do work more than 40 hrs/wk for sure. Generally people work pretty well together in the group I am in.
Cons – 1.) Boise ID. This city is either a pro or con depending on who you are and your life circumstances. Boise is a family/married town and I have no family so it really turns being in Boise to a con for me. Also Boise is a very isolated place which I thought I would like when I first came, but it does grow wearisome after a while. Also I have gathered that most people at Micron (and if I dare say Boise in general) have always lived here or in the surrounding areas so they don't seem very interested in "outsiders". I like the weather here though. For some the isolation of Boise and the scenery may be a great thing, but for me, personally, I have not found it so great.
2.) Micron Technology. From a corporate stand point Micron is rather "arthritic" as another reviewer pointed out and not that innovative. They have survived based on the up swings of the consumer dram market and this market is and will continue to decline. They do now try to focus on higher end server grade memory which is good and if the Elpida acquisition does go through they may continue to survive as a pure memory company. But, given the current executive leadership, they will continue to be just a "memory" company since the executives do not seem to have the foresight, the ambition, or maybe the ability to broaden Microns product range.
3.) At least test engineering at Micron is not that technically challenging and gets to be rather repetitive. Dram and nand/SSD's are interesting technologies with more involved in them than meets the eye, but when working with these technologies day after day there is a limit to your technical growth. Most of the work in test involves coding mainly by just hacking and adapting existing code.
Advice to Senior Management – Get organized, get motivated, start looking ahead.

Former Employee – worked at Micron Technology full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Training and career planning is top notch, factory systems user friendly, various equipment and processes to learn off of. Unlimited over time!
Cons – Pays less than many other companies, can be very hard to get a promotion even when you complete the necessary training profiles. You really need a degree to get paid what you're worth, they don't really put too much stock into tech degrees either.
Advice to Senior Management – Reward your workers, understand that process punks are a dime a dozen but getting some people in that understand the equipment and how to fix it is a rare thing.

Pros – Amazing opportunity and a great place to work.
Pays very well and competitively in regards to the market.
Great time off program.

Current Employee – been working at Micron Technology full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Flexible engineering hours, good pay, plenty of vacation time. Good opportunities for growth.
Cons – Benefits are sometimes reduced in industry downturns but this isn't necessarily a Con because it helps Micron to hang onto people rather than lay workers off. Short term pain, long term gain.
Health care plan could be better.
Advice to Senior Management – I would try to get closer with the engineers and find out what needs to happen to keep them happy and working for Micron, we are losing many quality engineers to other companies.

Current Employee – been working at Micron Technology full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Nice balance between work and family.
Cons – Virtually no bonus due to keen competition in DRAM industry. Profit from NAND and NOR is not sufficient to offset the loss in DRAM. A long way to turn profitable.
Advice to Senior Management – Nice job done to sustain Micron within tough environment.
