    Pros

3-4 days/ week of 12 hour shift, giving a lot time off

    Cons

Shift engineers can get "free ride" because performance is based on the team, not individual performance

I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great money, hard to find such a good paying job right out of college. Shift work allows for long 3 & 4 day weekends. Was able to move up considerably in my first 3 years (pay increased 30%!) but feels like I have now plateaued.

    Cons

A considerable amount of micro-managing. Only a select number of positions in each processing area (etch, litho, etc) in my department, making it challenging to continue moving up. A lot of promotion opportunities are based on attrition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your engineering team to sustain themselves & make their own decisions.

I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoy working with the customers and it is close to home. I also enjoy the 12.5 hours of vacation time I get a month

    Cons

This position is really difficult having a work-life balance. The culture tends to be a 'good ole boy's club'. It seems the only way to get promoted is to find a friend who is in upper management. No matter how hard you work, it's not good enough and it's the only place I know that uses a personality contest to get you promoted. Not a very professional atmosphere and a manager who has admitted he knows nothing about what we do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some advice I have is to take a good hard look at your managers and decide if some of them need to be demoted from their positions.

A company which used to respect its employees is now one which regards them as just a number (& an expense)

I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Exposure to the top echelons of the semiconductor memory world.

    Cons

An employee's best is never enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees with more respect. Only the Directors and Officers of the company are rewarded with huge stock options, don't expect the minions to share your drive for higher stock prices. A large stock price means nothing if one has no stock. Pay a proper wage?

I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to grow in knowledge with challenging products and a lot of internal training resources. Plenty of internal opportunities for advancement at the individual contributor level. Compensation is quite good.

    Cons

Very poor culture. Almost all management are internal promotions for individuals who have been with the company for many years. Little to no fresh perspective is welcome from the outside and the culture is akin to a 1980s production factory which not coincidentally is when the company got its start. Employees are recognized for time of service and long hours as much or more than their performance. Work/Life balance is not encouraged and it is never acceptable to prioritize your family life over work (like leaving an hour early to see a child's play at school). All employees must "badge in" including salaried employees, being 15 minutes late will show up on your annual review which is quite silly for a salaried employee 2010 where performance should be the metric. Working remotely is not allowed. Employees are treated as expendable and individual contributions are expected to fit into the system at every turn, there is little to no change to drive improvements or demonstrate unique skill sets. You are very much a cog in the wheel as they say.... Very unhealthy corporate environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in some outside perspectives at the management and executive level. Recognize that your employee base if your lifeblood. Update your management methodologies by 20+ years.
