Good place to work, but beware

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood salary/benefits, hardworking, intelligent coworkers, ability to work on interesting projects. Flexible work-life balance if you choose. Lots of autonomy to figure out the best way to accomplish your goals. People are generally very generous about helping you and providing advice, and there are a ton of smart people there to learn from.

Conspolitics, bureaucracy, test not respected or have as much influence as other roles, the sense that no matter how great your reviews are you can be let go at any time for any reason, job security is very low

    Poor management/execution

Software Development Engineer In Test (SDET) (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsGreat benefits, good products. There are some great people there, some horrible folks too. Many different products and technologies to chose from.

ConsToo much emphasis on processes and hierarchy. Not a great environment for teamwork. Leadership lacks vision, too afraid to execute on bold ideas, grassroot ideas never gets recognized.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease listen to grassroot. Don't put people against each other and stop rewarding arrogant people who are not teamplayers.

    MSFT is changing

    Sales (Current Employee)

ProsStill a lot of great people working to help customers grow and be successful. Tons of cash on hand and at least some realization of what is needed to change.

ConsLeadership in sales organizations is becoming increasingly dis-ingenious...the company is in danger of losing it's core values of doing everything for customers to help them realize their full potential. Now it's sell everything you can to a customer, even if they don't need it and then move on. Back stabbing and assigning blame are on the rise.

Advice to Senior ManagementHonesty and ethics still matter...don't penalize your own people for doing the right thing.

Great experience, but it still comes down to your direct manager.

Senior Program Manager (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsA great place to work on projects and services that will stretch you and provide you great experience.

ConsAt the end of the day leadership of the business owners has to align with the CEO. If it doesn't they need to move on.

You'll be challenged and you'll learn a lot of new tools!

Executive Assistant (Former Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsThere are so many great processes and tools to learn every day! You have to be flexible and ready to change direction at a moments notice. The best part is you are always learning something that will advance your skills. The work environment is nice - the hardware is the best around and of course you have all the software you could dream of having at your fingertips!

ConsWork/Life balance can be tough at times - expect overtime to come up and be necessary to get job done. You support a lot of smart people that are under a lot of pressure, so occasionally you will be confronted with abruptness or rudeness that you just need to remember it's not you causing the pain to that individual.

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage growth and networking to those that are new or young; keep the meetings on track - follow an agenda.

    Great benefits, tough culture

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat benefits that are competitive or better than most employers out there. Depending on the team you're on and the manager that you are assigned to, there is potential to learn and grow your skills and career here.

ConsHuge corporation that still has difficulties with true collaboration and partnership within the company. Review system does not foster trust or partnership among colleagues and co-workers.
