I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Channel Management at its highest level, ensuring that you are overlooking the IT radar and giving you the opportunity to see the IT world and work with the major IT companies in the country

    Cons

Minimum guidance and Visibility, as you need to be loud to be visible in this company. Don't get my meaning of "Loud" wrong, it means running all over ensuring people know who you are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be a politician and make sure you treat everyone equal, people in Microsoft don't like to be called Mr. or Sir :) they are that humble!

I have been working at Microsoft as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Microsoft opens door to other opportunities later on if you do decide to leave. But if you're a contract staff, and you don't get hired as a Full Time, you better quit.

    Cons

Contract staff don't get invited to ANY company events, that's right NONE. No annual dinners, no off-sights nothing. You don't get bonus or a raise. Even your email is different from the rest of the full time employees. Your job is to take the load off Full Time Employee, and that's it. You could wait couple of years for the FTE Manager to vouch to make you full time, but that will not happen.

I worked at Microsoft full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

International exposure to conference and access to global team knowledge

    Cons

Yearly employee performance review through stack ranking created distrust among peers and selfishness in work environment. Favouritism breeds office politics.

I worked at Microsoft full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A chance to help companies and individuals achieve better performance and optimization. A chance to access the latest technologies.

    Cons

MS is focusing solely on revenue now. Even partner and customer focus is being sacrificed for this. The company purports to maintain this but coming down to the individual basis, how KPIs and scorecards are created and targetted, it forces the employee to solely focus on achieving revenue targets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revenue is not everything. Record revenues have been hit the past few quarters but your stock price reflects the fact shareholders don't care about that. Listen to your customers. You're not doing that. And do not be so US-centric in your corporate strategies.
