Good place to work, but plenty of room for improvement.

    Pros

The people in general are great, aside from of course a couple "bad apples." Company president is a great leader and a great guy who has not let his authority and power change him as a person. Employees are treated very well, and not micromanaged (unless, of course, someone isn't doing their job...that's still expected). Facilities at HQ are great and in an "old-but-restored" office building with 24/7 security, daily housekeeping, etc. Although they are pretty rigid about not having part-time workers, the hours are otherwise pretty flexible and you're allowed to stagger your schedule to avoid rush hour traffic. Shorter working hours on Fridays.

    Cons

The company as a whole is pretty conservative, requiring a fairly strict dress code, etc. Although it's getting better under the new administration, there's still a top-down management style going on, and plenty of residual evidence of how bad the former administration was that has yet to be cleaned up. Parent company is overly involved and very little can actually be managed locally, even at HQ. Anything you need will probably take forever to get. Work-life balance is limited. IT department, while very competent in what they do, have very little actual power to fix things locally. Computers and WiFi are closely monitored by IT, problem or not, which adds pressure and makes the working environment a little colder. 45 minute lunch breaks (one hour on Fridays) are too short to really go anywhere nearby to eat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lighten up the office culture a bit... maybe allow "casual Friday" attire every day, don't monitor every single email and internet session without reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing (those of us who do nothing wrong don't appreciate the pressure), allow at least an hour for lunch all week, maybe pressure parent company into turning over a little more control to local management.
