I have been working at Mid-South Subcontractors

    Pros

Overall, coworkers are pleasant and friendly and are willing to help when help is needed. A good number of Christians work here so the work environment can be very conducive to religious expression and freedom. Not that Christians are perfect, but most of the employees are honest, respectful and hard-working.

    Cons

Salaries were reduced by 15% about a year and a half ago. It seems there are no plans to restore them to their original level due to economic constraints. This reduction in salary has hit some of the lower level employees harder than the upper level ones. I know of 4 people who need to work extra jobs to make ends meet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While it was announced that everyone would "suffer equally" with a 15% pay cut across the board, in reality it hurt more for some employees. If this has to happen again, I'd suggest deeper cuts for higher wage earners and lesser cuts for lower wage earners.

I have been working at Mid-South Subcontractors

    Pros

Upper management extends much grace regarding time off, family, etc. Management is not heavy-handed in decision-making, but open to suggestions and alternatives to job proceudues, etc.

    Cons

Cross-training would be a big plus. Some holding key positions are 'territorial' and do not allow others to learn or train.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thank you for a great atmosphere and care. Pursue cross-training in every managerial position in order to ensure free flow of information and avoid interruptions in the daily work cycle due to absence, vacation, etc.

  3.

Mid-South is a family business with a tight-knit group of leaders with the employee in mind.

I have been working at Mid-South Subcontractors

    Pros

Very flexible with personal time off. Atmosphere is professional but laid back. Top management does whatever it takes in the lean times to keep employees yet balance that with economic demands

    Cons

Some areas are tightly guarded against cross-training or shared knowledge (long-time employees in particular). There should be more cross-training and systems comparisons in order to streamline operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at all the various software programs and systems. There is too much duplication of effort. Less systems and programs would make communication clearer.
