    I worked at MidPen Housing

    Pros

A lot of support from all my superiors and everyone was very capable at their jobs. The company sets out not only to provide great services for their residents but also to their employees. Although I was only part-time I still had vacation and sick days.

    Cons

The ONLY con I can say is the traveling around the peninsula and South Bay for staff meetings. However, mileage was reimbursed.

I have been working at MidPen Housing full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

if working full time you get good benefits. Some employers are very friendly and approachable. Good working atmosphere unless you are working with picky or mean coworkers. initially, the atmosphere was great and working with other coworkers and the residents but it wears off due to high pressure to do a billion things in a 8 hour day. Good company values, get some free midpen stuff, and make friends.

    Cons

Management sucks. They hire inexperience managers that don't know how to do there job. They have transitions very often and during these transitions, the company lay people off or force them to work at a different site so that they don't lose their jobs. Lots of turnover and always new faces. They put a lot of pressure on all staff to work hard because the company is understaffed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with your service department for they are the face of the company. Reduce pressure on staff members especially because they are trying hard to manage many properties and residents. Stop laying off people during transitions and only hire IF you are planning on keeping them

    Pros

May seem great in the beginning, everyone really nice and friendly, great rewarding work

    Cons

Another restructuring, layoffs, hard work for little pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your services department, they are on the front lines making sure residents stay housed and the properties continue to bring in money, dont expect qualified people to transition to new lower positions for less pay

I worked at MidPen Housing (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The work itself, not speaking to the corporate culture, is exciting, complicated, and challenging. You will find yourself swept up in the mission. Salaries is competitive with excellent benefits.

    Cons

Upper management turnover created caucus in the corporation. No guidance or support from the top. Committed employees treated terribly. Difficult and unrewarding work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The asset of the company is your committed staff.

    Pros

Good benefits and pay. They pay for your certification.

    Cons

Training is poor. They are trying to improve the company but these constant changes drive people crazy. Unrealistic expectations and deadlines. Chaos in many areas. Company this old must have a solid structure where any new employee should get plugged into the system. Instead any new big boss starts changing things around. Very frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to the employees and really really really listen to what they say. And keep your promises.

I have been working at MidPen Housing part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great working atmosphere and co-workers. Good support from your supervisor. Amazing feeling when you can help others and make difference in someone's life.

    Cons

Sometimes we are asked to achieve and do more than it was initially discussed in the time of employment. Not enough hands-on trainings during big changes in company.

I have been working at MidPen Housing full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Because it is an affordable housing org. which has rewards. Because you are able to help in some way, for those who really need it. Like the job and duties and I'm paid decent.

    Cons

Poor training, poor management software, lack of morale, policies change a lot, so does everything else, leaders at corporate office come and go too much, then more changes. Way over 40 hour work week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be satisfied once in awhile and try to keep the employees you still have left.
