I worked at Middle East Technical University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The school is one of the top schools In Turkey. It was nice to be in a scientific environment and to be educated in English. Working environment was alright but it mainly depends on which laboratory you are working in or who you are working with.

    Cons

There wasn't much freedom to experiment and learn the things in detail because of limited budget and scarcity of the materials needed for the experiments. My adviser was also a control freak, I didn't really feel free while I was working inthe lab.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be less bossy, find more projects to provide money to the students.

I have been working at Middle East Technical University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

During my work in Middle East Technical University, the Department of Computer Engineering, I have been surrounded with a great team of innovative people. It has an excellent campus where you can enjoy the nature and the technology at the same time. Middle East Technical University provides its workers a flexible environment to meditate on their research. With the fruitful research opportunities I have undertaken here, I got an acceptance for a Ph.D. in my dream school.

    Cons

The downside with the said flexibility is the loose communication between the management. Some tasks has to be undertaken with an underinformed nature. Chances are, in some projects, some of the requirements would be announced in the "last moment". Such encounters are unfortunately quite common, and one has to be ready to sacrifice many weekends, nights and holidays for the sake of completing the said requirements. Senior researchers and academics might need to figure out the balance for such problematic cases.
