I like the collegiate environment here and the ability to work with other students as a student employee.

I have been working at Middlebury College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Not very demanding jobs, including mine at the college's recycling center facility. Many of the jobs, including the ones in the library, allow students to do homework while on the job, which is nice.
I hear that at the Technology Helpdesk, or more research-focused jobs, you can actually learn something from your job and use those applicable skills on your resume while applying for internships and jobs down the road.

    Cons

Low hourly pay compared to other elite colleges and universities

I worked at Middlebury College full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The college does a great job of making sure you can balance work and school. You can usually find hours that fit around your class schedule and extracurriculars. It also offers great work-study opportunities.

    Cons

The jobs can take a lot of time out of your week, as school is very demanding. The pay for the more menial jobs is great, but the pay for the harder, more skilled/demanding jobs is marginally better. That's frustrating.

I have been working at Middlebury College full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent salary and benefits, great work/life balance. Nice community with a low crime rate. Excellent personal and professional growth opportunities offered through various venues such as Books 24/7 and Lynda.

    Cons

There are very few opportunities for advancement. Although it is good for the college that the employee turn over rate is low, for those staff members looking to move up it is difficult.

I have been working at Middlebury College as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The College offers great opportunities for students who wish to perform work-study and earn money while studying. Depending on the job, the pay can also be very rewarding.

    Cons

Job can consume more time than expected, which can interrupt study time. It is best to communicate clearly how much time can be committed at the very beginning of the job/internship.

I worked at Middlebury College as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great campus, good experience. Supportive group of people and interesting projects. Because it is self-scheduled, you can arrange it to fit your own schedule.

    Cons

Because this type of work is completely self scheduled, so you have to make time to do it yourself and so you have to be able to stick to a schedule. It helps when you have a supervisor who keeps you on schedule. This is not necessarily a con, but something to keep in mind.

I worked at Middlebury College part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Gained experience, very understanding supervisors, can work from home, hands on experience in grading, the professors give you a chance regardless of age!

    Cons

I had some problems fitting the grading into my schedule, and probably spent more time some weeks on grading than on classes.

    Pros
