    Pros

Excellent benefits and pay and opportunities

    Cons

"AT WILL" is easily enforced here

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Every reengineering creates more admin and reduces actual workers

I have been working at Middlesex Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This is a small facility, and it's easy to get to know your co-workers. When you need something there's not a lot of red tape.

    Cons

If you are a nonclinical employee working in the nursing department, you will receive no rewards, recognition, or opportunities for advancement. Compensation is poor. I am leaving soon, and have advocated for an upgrading of my position upon my departure, but have been told that's not possible. Thousands of dollars squandered on window-dressing programs such as Magnet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your whole staff, not just nursing.

    I worked at Middlesex Hospital

    Pros

-Excellent healthcare benefits for FT employees including cell phone, theme park, etc discounts available for all employees
-Pay is decent the higher your position is but for entry level positions, the pay is on the low end
    -Employment pretty stable in general
    -Lots of friendly staff
    -Some management very nice
Overall I enjoy working for Middlesex Hospital- it's not perfect but not bad either.

    Cons

    - Some departments can be very stressful as with fast paced healthcare enviroments should be expected
    - Some management difficult to work for
    - Some physicians need to display a better attitude (rather than thinking they should be catered to so highly) or perhaps a vacation more frequently might help.
    - Some departments are too gossipy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

That management recognize and reward staff more often for a combo of providing excellent service and support, going above and beyond, including good work ethic. Rewards to staff should be more tangible.

    I worked at Middlesex Hospital

    Pros

Wonderful co-workers who were always available as resources.

    Cons

Clinical Manager unavailable as a resource person. Often nurses left to find out their own answers to questions about policy/procedures. CM was quick to to write people up or intimidtae them. Never, never positive feedback for a job well done. Overwhelming case loads while participation in committees was mandated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand what special nurses are in their employ and treat them as such. A 40 hour week should be just that, not 50 hours or more.

I have been working at Middlesex Hospital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Excellent place to start off as an RN. Residency was top notch. Started in a specialty and was hand-help until ready. Definitely felt like they wanted me to succeed and felt like nurses were valued and appreciated.

    Cons

Good staff retention so would take a while to move up within the unit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Middlesex Hospital (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I love the people I work with and find my work rewarding. Recently left shift differential saline for existing employees after great pressure from shift workers.

    Cons

The CEO is exclusively about market value and is creating his own market value. Top down change will be respected. Change for highest earners too. Lead by example.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that your reputation is built by the direct care workers. Lead by example and be worthy of our respect. Healthcare is a business but it is about people and their lives. Change for the highest earners also.
