Advice to Senior Management

base promotions on more than who you like
Pros
Stable competent management team accessible to everyone, collaborative colleagues and robust pipeline. Millennium has a small to mid size entrepreneurial environment, but is backed by a larger very successful pharmaceutical company which is the best of both worlds. Management pays attention to employee feedback and takes action. Great work is recognized in a variety of ways. Millennium is an intense place to work because people are passionate about helping cancer patients. They also take time out to enjoy each and to give back to the community through many company sponsored events.
Cons
Millennium attracts some of the brightest people in the industry which when you bring all those people together into one company, it can be somewhat humbling for them (am I as good as I thought I was). It's an adjustment that some people struggle with. People who come from very hierachical organizations struggle sometimes because they have more freedom at Millennium in how they get their work done. If you like a lot of structure, Millennium may not be the best place for you to work. No doubt about it, people work VERY hard at Millennium, so burnout can be an issue. The company is very good about offering flexibility to its employees so they can try to manage the balance between work and home.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep paying attention to what's important to employees. They are the most important asset Millennium has. What they are doing seems to be working or we would not be receiving so much recognition as a Great Place to Work.
Pros
Great work experience as an intern. Everyone within my group taught me something different. Always a lot of parties or functions going on.
Cons
Not many chances for people in smaller groups to be promoted. They want people to relocate to Japan for three months at a time, employees feel pressured by it.
Advice to Senior Management
Organization within groups could use work. There seemed to be more conflicts than were necessary. Actually enforcing new policies would be helpful.
Pros
there is a good chance to learn new thing\ here and be noticed due to their size, this is also stable company,
Cons
there is not a lot of advancement due to size currently. the company does not have a 401 k match which would put them as a fore-runner.
Advice to Senior Management
a 401 match would be nice. upper management should respect all workers in particular the ones with experience inside the company
Pros
a good company to work with, good company culture, good people and by now the company is stable and move
Cons
the company is relatively small and the focus of therapeutic area is only one and people seldome have opportunity to expose more
Pros
Growth opportunities are present everywhere
Cons
It's going to be global
Pros
Cutting edge science and well integrated projects.
Cons
Cutting edge science but leadership lacked experience for sustained growth. Some of the pomposity of cambridge coloured their better judgement
Advice to Senior Management
see one liner
Pros
Very good flexible work schedule, good work /life balance, smart and professional colleagues, opportunity for career growth, and good location
Cons
The down side is that there are a lot of teritorial politics within the company, and that depending on where you are within the company the promotion can be quite long.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to be more open, and not too secretive with employees, speeding up promotions (it should be based on performance and not senority), and poor performing employees should be let go
Pros
good pay, great benefits, good culture
Cons
lack of experience in leadership positions. Leadership by intimidation
Advice to Senior Management
invest in leadership training for director level people managers
