Loved it - great internship program and people!

    Process Improvement Engineer (Former Employee)
    Blacksburg, SC

ProsVery organized with their hiring process and internship program. Great people. There's always good food! I wasn't treated like an intern, I was treated like a real employee and given an actual project to complete myself.

ConsMust work in manufacturing before you can work in product development, but only because they want you to get a true understanding of the processing until you can develop the products.

    Process Improvement (Former Employee)
    Gainesville, GA

ProsStrong Safety culture; Emphasis on associate education; Quality-oriented; Advancement opportunities for those willing to transfer; Teams; Deep pockets for machinery investments; Challenging assignments; Current computer network technology; Top Textile Manufacturer in USA. Competitive in Industry.

ConsRegimented; Strenuous work schedule; Micro-management; Too many corporate dictates which are difficult to implement at plant level; Top management forgets what it is like in the trenches; Domineering management; Limited advancement within plants; Down-sizing; Benefits and perks not comparable to other companies (for the worse); Long time between pay raises.

Advice to Senior ManagementEliminate "9-1" managers; Supply quality resources for quality yarn; Improve benefits and pay packages; Provide plants with adequate resources to accomplish goals.

ProsGreat opportunities to learn many jobs within the company.

ConsBusiness is a little slow due to the economy right now. We're not getting as many hours a week.

Not the great company it was a few years ago

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Spartanburg, SC

ProsThe best thing about the company is the quality of co-workers. Most are bright, competent people. The company has strong financials. Good learning opportunities. Decent work environment and benefits.

ConsManagement's focus is no longer on people and quality. Primary concern now is short-term profit. Uncertain future for current employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementAssociates are more productive and work quality is better when people aren't constantly afraid of losing their jobs. Treat associates with respect and they will return the favor.

Good company, good people, but a different management team.

    Senior Account Manager (Former Employee)
    Spartanburg, SC

ProsGreat company established by Mr. Milliken. Supports US manufacturing and keep jobs in the USA. Steady and strong in the days of Mr. Milliken. Great team environment. World's leading textile company. A company I would work for again given the chance.

ConsAfter the death of Mr. Milliken, the senior management team has had to make tough decisions and downsized many long term managers. Lost their competitive edge in many areas due to conflicts of strategy and a world economy. Still, a leader in textile and chemical research and development.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell off unprofitable parts of the company and develop a partnership with foreign companies or build vertical manufacturing abroad. Also, give veterans that left the company years ago a chance to come back and lead.

Excellent until Mr. Roger Milliken stepped out of the picture.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Spartanburg, SC

ProsFinancially strong, privatly held, Great employees, great facilities

ConsLack of alignment from the top, Lack of understanding how to manufacture at the top senior management level. Do not not plan on working until you are ready to retire. Not reinvesting in textiles.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart considering employees as assets before you loose all loyality. Invest outside of the chemical division you must diversify to survive.
