I worked at Milliken full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

In the past employees were treated as valuable team members.

    Cons

Now the company is favoring and promoting younger hires and getting rid of workers fifty and older regardless of their contributions to the company's growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become a company that values its workers.

    A good stepping stone

    I worked at Milliken

    Pros

Innovative, lots of resources, a good place to get your "feet" wet after college and gain experience. Fair salaries.

    Cons

Workaholic environment! If you want your life to revolve around job, then you'll fit right in. If you are looking for more of a balance then I'd be cautious. I worked in the chemicals division and it often felt like I was working with robots.

I have been working at Milliken full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great associates, lot of freedom, very smart leaders, excellent compensation, very advanced technology center, very smart young engineers, great products, very competent process; still believes in US manufacturing which in turn will turn out to be fruitful.

    Cons

Short term focus is much higher than long term; lot of technology in textiles lost to Asian manufacturers; could have a better balance between short term goals and extreme long term focus

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing things that made the company the way it is.

I worked at Milliken full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

You get to work on actual projects that are going into implementation.
They also do a lot of intern building and get togethers.
Interns can only work 40 hours a week.

    Cons

You are working in a production plant, and in the summer it would get obscenely hot.
Heard a lot of bad things about how many hours they make their engineers work from the engineers themselves.

    Pros

Really relaxed environment, no pressure or stress

    Cons

Politics, no drive to get anything accomplished, no internal development of employees

You will never get promoted unless your boss leaves or dies, even if he is no good.

I worked at Milliken as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Very organized with their hiring process and internship program. Great people. There's always good food! I wasn't treated like an intern, I was treated like a real employee and given an actual project to complete myself.

    Cons

Must work in manufacturing before you can work in product development, but only because they want you to get a true understanding of the processing until you can develop the products.
