    Pros

The institution is in a very good field. The majors are in demand, and there are very few local schools to compete with in this area.

    Cons

Extremely budget constrained. Not much room for advancement within the institution. Little resources available to employees. Obsolete facilities which are in desperate need of replacement. Very little effective communication or teamwork.

    Advice to Management

Delegate decision making and authority. Provide adequate resources to all employees. Invest in younger employees that are the future and allow them to make some of the decisions.

    Pros

Benefits were really good in terms of their health plan and retirement match.

    Cons

Salary was very poor and annual increases are very small if at all. Work-life balance is non existent for employees. Managers are not shy to make sure they have it but that doesn't get extended to the employees. Very understaffed, and that is they way they like it which causes the work load to be insane. Often 60+ hours in the week. That wouldn't be an issue if employees were compensated fairly which isn't the case. Employee expectations are often unrealistic. They use the fact that they are a not for profit university as an excuse to not compensate employees. Overall the treatment of employees is horrible.

    Advice to Management

Work-life balance should be extended to employees. Compensation should be fair compared to the market and they are years behind.

    Pros

the pay is fairly decent compared to other student work full-time staff is friendly and usually helpful the summer work is a lot better than working during the academic season

    Cons

hours are non-negotiable poor management and communication across housing departments Housing director plays favorites and can be unfair to student workers, he holds his resident assistants well above any other student worker, he often discriminates based on this it seems. Ever since the old custodial director's responsibilities were transferred to the housing directors, things have gotten much worse

    Advice to Management

Please try to be consistent and fair for starters. Discipline your supervisor's if work is not up to expectations. We haven't been given any and cannot improve without knowing what is wrong. If this is impossible for you guys, please consider getting replaced. We need real leadership and responsibility, stop blaming us because you guys aren't competent enough to know what you are doing.

    Pros

The staff are good people, committed to the mission of higher education. People are very helpful to each other.

    Cons

The small town culture lends itself to a lot of gossip and politics. Nothing much stays confidential, even in HR.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the atrophy in some departments. To maintain the institution's reputation, bring in some fresh blood with new ideas and fresh energy.

    Pros

    - Family Atmosphere - good benefits - downtown location - growing

    Cons

    - average to below average pay - haven't had a raise in 5 years - some departments have poor management - management doesn't have team meetings on a regular basis to know what is going on. No communication. -

    Advice to Management

Communicate more with your employees. Students are our most important customers but don't think your employees matter. every once in a while have the employees review management. We may have something worth while to say.
